The red wave-turned-ripple was only enough for Republicans to narrowly win the House.

What happened in the US midterm elections is becoming clear: the red wave-turned-ripple was only enough for Republicans to narrowly win the House, while the Democrats kept the Senate. But 'why' it happened is a harder question to answer.

On GZERO World, NPR White House correspondent Tamara Keith speaks to Ian Bremmer about all things midterms.

Her take on what saved the Dems? Abortion rights and protecting democracy turned out voters.

And what about the GOP? Keith has some thoughts on whether it's still a MAGA party or a Trump personality cult and, looking ahead to 2024, whether Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is a viable alternative to the former president.

I would still vote for the other party, if they fielded decent candidates, instead of crazy people.

This is an amazing YouTube channel. So thoughtful and quality research. Keep it up Ian !
News media was deregulated during Ronald Reagan era. I don't think even he understood what implications that would have. News should be a non profit part of any network. Journalists should be professionals who are non aligned with any political party. Until the news is regulated again which will probably never happen, the US will be crazy and polarized.

Sharing power insures nothing big will get done, so citizens can pause and have a peaceful winter.

Deadlock is progress.

Yes! I want to leave this country. I’m building documentation to gain residency in Mexico. Cheaper, less hostility, better weather, nicer people. In some places, less crime.

It don't really matter witch party who is in voted in, the two party state have a marginal impact of the direction of the country.

History tells, if you check all nowadays “modernized and prosperous” industrial countries you can find out that all of them had no so called “western democracy” at all in their successful developing period, except their piracy, monarchy, colonization and dictatorship. For example, during USA successful industrialization no woman were allowed to vote. Even most white men had no voting right and they were also not eligible to participate in any decision making. American black people had no any political right, they couldn’t vote until 1965. All country’s decisions were made only by a small group of white men. In most those countries even no party was allowed. Not only USA did so, European countries also had similar process. In Asia Japan, S Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong did so as well.
