President Biden 'relieved' at US midterm results - BBC News

US President Joe Biden has expressed relief after Democrats fended off major Republican gains in the midterms.

The US midterm elections are to elect new members of Congress - which is made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives - but not a new president.

Republicans are inching towards control of the House of Representatives, but President Biden noted that a "giant red wave" did not materialise on Tuesday night.

Either party could still win the Senate, which hinges on three races that are too close to call.

The party in power, currently the Democrats, usually suffers losses in a president's first midterm elections and Republican strategists had been hopeful of sweeping victories.

But speaking at the White House on Wednesday, Mr Biden said the results so far had made him breathe a "sigh of relief".

Even though I wanted him to win in 2020 I definitely don't recommend him for a second term but I also don't want to see Trump making any attempt for 2024 neither they both are terrible. Get someone else that is good and young and understand the 21st century and not these old school who they think that we still live in the 19th century.

Who ever gets into office in 2024 there is one thing for sure. Divisions remain a constant threat for Americans. All this back and fourth bullsh*t really astounds me.😐

It would appear that the Biden Campaign Team @BBC are 'relieved' to judging by the way they are fawning over this 🤣

"A good day for democracy", translation: Nothing like a near 50/50 split so both sides can do nothing and accuse the other of being the reason why nothing is being done. Oligarchs win, status quo maintained.

Relieved... Biden hasn't got the faintest idea of what's going on 😆

What are they smoking? The Republicans made gains and have more seats in both houses, even if not by as large a majority as they want.

Has 'Uncle Joe' asked for Garland's resignation?
If not, why not?

Ugh, Joe shouldn't run. The dems need to find someone young and exciting but all the options are horrible radicals.
