Chapter 04 – śloka 39:
श्रद्धावान् लभते ज्ञानं तत्पर: संयतेन्द्रिय: |
ज्ञानं लब्ध्वा परां शान्तिमचिरेणाधिगच्छति || 39||
śhraddhāvānllabhate jñānaṁ tat-paraḥ sanyatendriyaḥ
jñānaṁ labdhvā parāṁ śhāntim achireṇādhigachchhati
Word by Word Meaning:
śraddhāvān – one who is full of faith;
labhate – attains;
jñānam – wisdom;
tat-paraḥ – devoted;
saṁyata – controlled;
indriyaḥ – senses;
jñānam – wisdom;
labdhvā – having attained;
parām – supreme;
śāntim – peace;
acireṇa – immediately;
adhigacchati – attains;
Chapter 04 – śloka 40:
अज्ञश्चाश्रद्दधानश्च संशयात्मा विनश्यति |
नायं लोकोऽस्ति न परो न सुखं संशयात्मन: || 40||
ajñaśh chāśhraddadhānaśh cha sanśhayātmā vinaśhyati
nāyaṁ loko ’sti na paro na sukhaṁ sanśhayātmanaḥ
Word by Word Meaning:
ajñaḥ – the ignorant one;
ca – and;
aśraddadhānaḥ – one without faith;
ca – also;
saṁśaya – doubting;
ātmā – person;
vinaśyati – perish;
na – not;
ayam – this;
lokaḥ – world;
asti – there is;
na – not;
paraḥ – the next;
na – not;
sukham – happiness;
saṁśaya – doubting;
ātmanaḥ – for a person;
Explanation Ch 04 – śloka 39-40:
Much of the knowledge is profound and not easily perceptible. By rigorously practising the teachings of the scriptures and surrendering to the guru with complete faith, the seeker experiences the Truth. Those who do not have this faith and perseverance do not realise the Truth even after several lifetimes.
Meaning Ch 04 – śloka 39-40:
One who is full of śraddhā (faith), who is devoted and whose senses are controlled, attains [this] wisdom. Having attained the wisdom, one immediately attains supreme peace.
The ignorant one, who has no śraddhā (faith) and who doubts [the Truth] comes to ruin. For the sceptical ones, there is no happiness either in this world or the next.
