For Civilization VII fans, those returning from Civilizations 5 & 6, or strategy gamers more broadly - welcome! Here's what I wish I knew before playing Civilization 7. This video is not an absolute beginners guide (stay tuned?!) but many tips will be suitable for beginners. This Civ 7 tutorial covers loads of topics, the things that stood out to me as common mistakes, the problems I heard from you, and ultimately my own misdemeanors in Civilisation 7. Topics range from how to use commanders, to how towns work, the roles of the merchant unit, through to age progression and overbuilding. Thanks for watching! Stay tuned for more civ tips!

Took me HOURS to figure out you can close windows with RMB.

Change your hot key for "next turn" to a secondary button on your mouse. (Extra button or MMB) This is essentially clicking the button in the bottom right of the screen.

Now you dont have to go to the bottom right or close out of menus. That about 80% of your mouse travel each turn.

Honestly, most games I just rush to writing, then walls and then math. Having a boost in science makes it easier to get buildings like the market or cultural ones, helping a lot in economical or cultural victories.
Then I always try to build the lone star (200g per Wonder), that gold is spent on increasing productivity in towns so you can get more gold per turn.

I never played civ games before this is my first one. I am trying to build a naval empire. Any advice?

Making mistakes is part of the game. Everyone’s experience is unique

What?! "R" for ranged attack instead of "B" for bombard? Madness. 🙂

is it just me that really misses the workers and great people? I don't understand why they would remove such a crucial part of the civ games. IMO not being able to enslave or capture enemy workers and great people is a really underappreciated mechanism it forced you to have military units in your city and actually care about the enemies in or around your cities. -Also why TF are merchants the only way to build roads in this game what tf were the devs smoking

At first I hated this game. It was to different from what came before that My mind screamed " This is Not My father's Civilization..." well you know what I mean. But as I started watching more Youtubes. As I started reading the tool tips.... things started making me smile.

That Moment when you start noticing.." This thing increases " or that moment when I realized " oh shit... different civilizations get different units with different toggleable abilities..." or when I first realized How to use commanders to make coordinated attacks. I think Commanders are the an amazing they really breath life into the game.

I will admit I was Playing Modded civ vi on and off when not playing this, but suddenly... Civ VI suddenly seemed lifeless.

What I wish I knew before playing Civ 7 is that's not even worth playing if it were free.

I think no1 on the list of things I wish I knew was that it was Civ7… I’ll pass. Civ6 and City Skylines 1 forever!!!

Things I’m glad I knew before…

DONT PRE ORDER AS IT WILL RELEASE UNFINISHED

And I’m so glad I followed that advice.

Game isn’t ready to be released.
And people who ply it… know it.

Have some balls and stand up to the devs and stop promoting this shitty product.

I wish that I knew knew that this was a PISS POOR rip off of Humankind instead of an ACTUAL Civ game. This isn't a single game, but a series of minigames that are sort of tied together. Building your troops doesn't matter, you can trade everything you've built for a ready made more modern army that can waste the rest of the board with ease. Negotiate with a "city state", spend your money and time, then not only does none of that count, but they AREN'T EVEN ON THE BOARD ANYMORE. Nothing in this game has any real meaning because with every era change, the entire game changes with little regard to what you've been doing to that point.

The biggest mistake one can make is to buy this Humankind wannabe.
