All Israel Shall Be Saved In The End - Dr. Dale C. Allison Jr

The earliest traditions around the narrative of Jesus' resurrection are considered in this landmark work by Dale C. Allison, Jr, drawing together the fruits of his decades of research into this issue at the very core of Christian identity.

Allison returns to the ancient sources and earliest traditions, charting them alongside the development of faith in the resurrection in the early church and throughout Christian history. Beginning with historical-critical methodology that examines the empty tomb narratives and early confessions, Allison moves on to consider the resurrection in parallel with other traditions and stories, including Tibetan accounts of saintly figures being assumed into the light, in the chapter “Rainbow Body”.

Finally, Allison considers what might be said by way of results or conclusions on the topic of resurrection, offering perspectives from both apologetic and skeptical viewpoints. In his final section of “modest results” he considers scholarly approaches to the resurrection in light of human experience, adding fresh nuance to a debate that has often been characterized in overly simplistic terms of “it happened” or “it didn't”.

It’s cool that because Derek has interviewed so many different scholars he’s able to bring their ideas together with his questions.

Keep it up Derek

Isn't it dangerous that people claim a land because of a corrupted book?

Sometimes the conversations Derek has on this topic put me in mind (as a lit teacher) of somebody asking what happened to Horatio after Hamlet died...? Did he leave? Did he stay on w Fortinbras? Did he open a horse-shoe shop? How much of our interest in history is really all just about lives disappearing...?

Time ends when you die. Between then and now live a good life so you don't regret your life. No god can save you. Your only saviour is your mind and imagination . No BS required. No religion no god. no thanks

I recently discovered the book of Adam. The book of Adam is a delightful book and I wonder why it's not in Genesis where it belongs?

Allison brings up a number of excellent points in this difficult discussion but it might be helpful to see what other canonical Greek New Testament texts that might shed some light on the eschatological in gathering of ‘qol Yisro’el in the Last Days’ —

see e.g. Matthew 15:29ff in the pericope of the Syrophonecian gentile woman whose daughter had a bleeder daemon and somehow made it through the cordon of disciple-bodyguards -

‘and she prostrates herself in front of ‘Iesous’ saying, ‘son of David, have mercy on me’ but Iesous answers her saying ‘Lady the BarEnasha (son of man, AramDan 7:13ff) was sent ONLY to the Elect of the Lost Sheep of the House of Yisro’el and anyway since when would it be right to snatch the children’s bread out of their mouths and throw it away on the (‘calevin’ = Aram. ‘dogs, Gentiles’) under the table ?’

In the Dead Sea scrolls & in the mishnaic literature ‘calevin’ refers to Gentiles (e.g. dogs, Gentiles & other unclean animals…) so in this passage (occurring likewise in ‘Mark’ but completely absent from gentile loving ‘Luke’) may shew a bigoted racial component was an integral part of the earliest Nazorean Aramaic speaking Christianities prior to the 1st Fail’d Jewish War against Rome (66-72 CE) when Judea was ground to powder & James the Just’s circumcising Torah abiding messianic synagogues & yahadin were mostly wip’d off the face of the planet…

This Syrophonecian pericope found in Mark & Matthew shews that one of the duties of the messiah of Yisro’el in the last days was to ingather the elect of the lost sheep of the house of Yisro’el scatter’d among the Gentiles (the scene is after all set in Syrophonecia beyond the borders of the state in the 1st century) in order to bring about the eschatological ‘Tiqqun’ (‘regeneration to occur in the days when the BarEnasha shall come again to judge all flesh’)

In the Book of Revelation (68/69 CE) written during the ‘year of the 4 Emperors’ when Rome the great Babylon was looking like it was about to fall from within, we see Jews receiving the balm from the 12 fruits of the Tree of Life in the last days after the successful war against the Kittim a scene in the New Heavenly descended Jerusalem where the defeated scarr’d Gentiles cannot approach the actual fruit of the Tree of Life but can only receive the leaves of the tree to heal their battle scars—unclean second class citizens that would have been converted as proselytes into Jerusalem since they would have been originally part of the group of ritually unclean persons (including sodomites and Ganymedes/catumens) where ‘nothing ritually unclean may enter into the holy city’ but interestingly only their ‘wealth’ alone shall pour into Jerusalem — (see Rev 22:26 which is a Haggadic Midrash on the Targum of Trito Isaiah chapters 60-66 ‘and in that day Yisro’el shall suck the blood of the Gentiles’ etc where a reconstituted Yisro’el shall in some miraculous way conquer the world…

There are hints of Gentiles being ‘second class citizens’ even in the ravings of Shaoul of Tarsus e.g. ‘to the Jew first, of course, but also to the Gentiles’ (cf Romans 1:16 etc) when writing to Jewish messianic Torah abiding synagogues such as the Yahad at Rome which he himself did not establish but rather Torah abiding proCircumcision disciples of Jesus before him…

Just a few comments off the top of my head this afternoon …

So was Zeus Yahweh? Were the Jews Greeks? Can we finally lay claim to Christianity as non-Judaic and declare it an exclusively European and non-Middle-Eastern religion and finish the appropriation of Judaism once and for all?? Can you the expert give me permission to do that please please please???

It's obvious that Jesus, and Paul, believed that the apocalypse would come quickly... In their lifetimes. They were clearly delusional.
Sifting through the craziness is a pastime I don't relate to. Why waste time? Life's too short.

I was gonna say Dr Allison needs a little Barth towards the end of the interview but then as I was typing he said “I don’t think a Barthian reading of Romans makes sense” lol

All Yisra'el will not be saved (always refers to physically - 'Zephaniah' 3:13-17).

I think that for the historical Paul, God will be all in all at the very end of the age, Christ will give sole authority to the Father (God) (1 Corinthians 15:23-28). But when we read Acts 17, we see something different. We see Paul saying that *now* God is all in all, not in a future scenario. So this view is really of the author of Luke-Acts, not Paul's.
