Wow, a transmission pan with a drain plug, that's a bonus.
I had the exact same hard shifting problem in my '07 Ranger. I changed the transmission fluid with Amsoil. It fixed the problem, drastically improved my gas mileage and power. The lesson factory fluids are horrible!!!!

2016 owner here. I have not experienced any of these issues. I've owned my truck since it was new. 87k miles later and Its brilliant

Interestingly enough my 2017 TRD Off-Road didn't have any of those issues despite most of them are honored by the manufacturer and fixed for free. Unlike most other particularly American brands, Toyota still remains as the most reliable and dependable manufacturer in entire automotive industry.

I had 2017 Tacoma. Traded it in. That trans shifted weird even under 50, 000miles...couldn’t imagine what it would be like with Still like Toyota’s still

I'm a mechanic. I haven't see any problems of above mention. Only problem that i heard people complaint that Tacoma kept they value high. Example 20k+ for a Tacoma with over 100k.

That's it?? some factory backed recalls and a blower motor. My ford has literally a hundred issues that they refused to back like spark plug blow outs etc, massive failures

Would love to see more videos on 3rd gen Tacoma...your FJ series has been a life saver and with lots of these tricks on the road it would be great to see...start with the idler pulleys!

Not had a single one of those problems with my 16 Off Road. Only problem I've had was the factory battery only lasted 3 years.

Another common issue is water getting into the third rear brake light. Amongst other trucks as well.

I own a 2016 tacoma trd sport 4 door long bed with 53k miles on it. The only problem I started to get it's the cruise control. When I turn it on (but not always though) says: check cruise control system and doesn't work. Ahh, I also had a problem where all the refrigerant leaked out, that was like $700. Great video!

The oil changes on 3rd gen Tacoma's are notoriously difficult too.

Nice video! 2017 automatic SR5 4x4 V6 w/ tow package, 50k miles been west to east coast twice. No issues mechanically so far for me. Only issue have had was water leaking into headliner from rear cargo light, I suspected a bad gasket. Simple fix with silicon until I replace someday.

As far as shifting goes it definitely likes to hunt for low rpms when changing cruising speed around town, and noticed some hard down shifting due to that tuning when I decelerated quickly to stop. Had to change my driving habits and really let the shifting do more work accelerating and decelerating. I will say it doesn’t shift as smooth as a lot of automatics I have driven such as some subarus. However this little truck runs like a dream off road and for me has just been a great vehicle. Nothing is perfect but this truck has been close to perfect for me. Hope this puts some other owners at ease. Peace.

2018 Tacoma. Rear passenger axle seal, idler pulley, fuel pump recall, TSS front sensor recall. Just hit 30k miles and I am on a first name basis with several of the employees at the dealership. I feel like Norm from Cheers.

Thank you for such an excellent video. You covered all issues so well there is no need for questions. I own a 2020 sr5 v6 and I found out that the transmission seemed to work erratically because it works also along with the front distancing sensor, so is more like a safety bonus feature like if someone cuts in front of you it will try to slow down. Anyway I have put only about 2500 miles on it and I love this truck, the only thing that bothers me is definitely the rear view mirror seems to big and low blocking some of my view specially when turning right.

I remember growing up as a kid my father owned a 1976 Toyota pickup and a 1985 Toyota pickup and he never had any issues with them all these modern vehicles are nothing but electronics and crap inside of them, they have nothing but problems with them
