This is ridiculous and inhumane to call police on someone because of 43 cent. there's this gas station at my area( 7 eleven) that I sometimes buy coffee from, there was a day I bought coffee of $1;89 and I forgot to pay before going in to my car, immediately I cranked my car I realized that I did not pay for the coffee I rushed back inside the store to apologize for not paying, but the lady there did something amazing, by telling me to go without paying for the coffee that sometimes it happens that people do forget to pay for the least item that they bought that she had already paid for me with her money. but I asked her why didn't she call me back or stopped me from walking away with the coffee? she said is a waste of time. next time I went there I suprised her with a gift that she least expected. let us always show love ❤ to humanity!

Hard to believe someone’s life will be wrecked over 43 cents. A compassionate police officer should’ve slapped a couple quarters on the counter.

I love the idea of doing cost/benefit analysis on whether to investigate a theft. $0.43 vs. $4, 000.00 in costs for prison + $50, 000.00+ in police time, paying the judge and prosecutor… absurd

43 cents story comment. It costs $70, 000/year for each prisoner.

the cost of putting a man in jail for 43 cents really doesn't make sense, it will cost so much on taxpayers..

A 16oz Mountain Dew shouldn't cost 2 dollars and 43 cents!

The real crime here is that a mountain dew is $2.43

The philosophy of the rich and the poor is this: the rich invest their money and spend what is left. The poor spend their money and invest what is left."

To be clear, in SF, the current rules are that you can dine & drink in (including music venues) and not wear a mask, but you must show proof of vaccination or leave.

I absolutely love how Republicans acted like California was ground zero just because it's a democratic state and now it has the lowest amount of cases whereas places like Texas and Kentucky people are spreading it like crazy haha

As far as chicken smuggling there was a tunnel in Gaza or something awhile back that was smuggled KFC across the board that was so much funnier

San Francisco resident here: Please have your writers do better research. You made a mistake. The rules are that restaurants and indoor venues that sell food and drink must check to see that you're vaccinated to let you in. You have been able to take your mask off inside a restaurant for about a month now. Mayor Breed did not violate her own rules. Your writers failed to make sure they knew what the rules were in the first place.

Being New Zealand the police would have been highly amused. No guns, threats, or assaults will have taken place. Unlike in the so called “Land of the free”.

8:17 Joseph Sobolewski, a 38 year old homeless man, went into a convenience store in Perry County (PA) in August to buy a bottle of soda. The advertised price of the Mountain Dew was two for $3. Sobolewski paid $2 for one bottle and walked out. The price for a single bottle, however, was $2.29 plus tax, meaning he was 43 cents short. The store called the police on Sobolewski, who was arrested and charged with a felony under the state’s “three strikes law” for retail theft. He had been convicted more than a decade ago for a theft and in 2011 for stealing a pair of shoes. The law doesn’t take into account the value of the item in the third theft charge. A criminal docket shows Sobolewski was arrested as he awaited trial because he was unable to post a $50, 000 cash bond. The bond was later modified to be “unsecured” after an appeal by his public defender, meaning Sobolewski was able to be released without giving money to the court, although the amount remains the same. It’s unclear if the charge will hold — the law requires proof that the theft was an intentional crime rather than a misunderstanding over the full value of an item.
