CRPGs are some of the best RPGs in the RPG genre, not only because they usually have fantastic narratives and characters, but also because they have a high focus on character Building and Role Playing. I also would add Expeditions: Viking to the list, which is probably the only historic cRPG out there.

I think Torment: Tides of Numenara is worthy of an "honorable mention". It really thought outside of the box and was a very odd and inventive way of rethinking CRPGs. It reminded me of Disco Elysium in that sense. Very underrated. In fact, a lot of what Inxile has been doing over the past 5 years has been kind of underrated imho.

Dragon Age Origins is still one of my favourite games ever and Tyranny was super interesting. Pillars of Eternity 2 was nice with full voice acting, and I'm working my way through Pathfinder Kingmaker, but it's been great so far. Such a rich world.

Dragon age origins remains an unparalleled rpg. Despite the difficulty, every time your mage cast a fireball you could feel the OOMF. That was back when not every enemy was a sponge and you needed a good six minutes whittling down a freaken bear cough inquisition cough.
