I'm a professional seamstress outside of the Raleigh/Charlotte NC area. I get at least one call about price every day. You cannot base a tailor's work on price only. You're paying for quality and speed, as well. (I always find it amusing when a customer complains about the price of a service they have no idea how to do themselves. They forget they are paying for my 20+ years of experience.) I find that the type of person who goes by price alone generally views clothing as disposable. They want the best deal; the largest quantity of cheap clothing. I'd rather have a client bring me one or two garments they're going to get a lot of wear out of than ten things they picked up off their closet floor.

Price quotes are about right. I just got the excess material removed from the back of the neck area and sleeves shortened for $51 here in San Diego

I am a tailor, I own my own tailor shop and I got phone call everyday from customer, they asked for fast service and they didn't want to pay for fast service, tailoring is skill and experience not just anybody can pick up needle and thread and sew, it is artistic can you imagine tailor who can recut the suit jacket and suit pants not every tailor can do that, it takes special skill.

You've really improved over the years on speaking.  In this video, it appears as though you had no script or practice; cutting yourself off and such.  You didn't know where to begin.  In your later videos you are much better at getting to the point and knowing where you're starting and where you're finishing.  Good job on the improvement.

As an Asian woman myself I will say the best tailors are either Thai or Vietnamese. When in doubt, go with Thai or Vietnamese. They learned tailoring the old fashioned way with years and years of apprenticeship in their own country before coming to America. Tailoring is no joke to them and you will get the highest quality.

Totally agree, you most be very respectful, think of it as the person who's cooking your food... chocolates, treats, treat them with respect, be a friend :)

I've got a tip for you. Don't charge $15.00 for a button fix if you want repeat/volume business.

When a service provider provides good service, good workmanship, good prices. THEN; he gets my respect, my continued business and referrals; not before.
You want my business more than I need your services.

I have a welding business and a commercial diving business. When I apply good business ethics and better than average work. I can nearly always count on loyalty. The customer is my bread and butter; he knows it and I know it. Anyone stalling a customer doesn't belong in business they belong in a union shop factory worker or a civil servant.

This is 2.5 years old and the prices might be slightly higher today.  Great suggestions on how to treat your tailor/seamstress.

You should always be respectful to the tailor, but the tailor should do the same. They shouldn't argue with you how your clothes should fit. Your clothes your money, its about you this time. I deal with this with my tailor. Get what you want or you will never be happy with it!

Great video ....the prices are a bit cheaper in the south but all things being relative to cost of living and store front etc it comes out about the same (cost a lot less to live in Lexington KY) anyway as has well been said price is not the main criteria if a job is needed and I'm one of the few that can do it....

$20 to hem pants!? My tailor charges $7 and has them ready in 15 minutes.

despite the way she was treated, that isn't right... she could ask the person to leave but to play a prank like that isn't very professional..

Yay you said the line! Anything awesome is def. not free unless its stolen of course. Ever think about having a premium e-book sale day? Anyways;

I actually recently got bracer buttons put on some pants, only cost me $8 I think that's fair. Funny thing is, when I got home the pants where so snug that even bracers or belt wouldn't be needed to hold the pants on!

The tailor you know takes clothes from her clients... Keeps them for 2 weeks... doesn't do ANYTHING with them... and charges them? Wow.

I know a lady in costume design who uses that little trick on difficult actors and actresses who want little, minor adjustments and really just need a certain kind of attention. And it works every time. They always say it fits better. She calls it the "French fix".
