TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:

Once a dark-eyed Cossack girl
Shod my horse.
She asked for a small amount of money
not highly valuing her work.
"What's your name, young lady?"
And the young lady replies:
"You'll hear my name
In the clatter of your horse's hooves."

I rode along the street,
I galloped the roads,
And along the path among brown rocks,
And among gray rocks.
"Masha? Zina? Dasha? Nina?.."
None seem to be her name.
"Katya! Katya!" - was sounded to me
By my racer's horseshoes.

And since that time, whether I ride
Or whether I gallop -
"Katya, Katya, Katerina..."
I diligently whisper.
What a muddle-head I am!
Because I have another girlfriend!
But I cannot get Katya, like a song,
Out from my soul, brother!

Once a dark-eyed Cossack girl
Shod my horse.
She asked for a small amount of money
Not highly valuing her work.
What's your name, young lady?
And the young lady replies:
"You'll hear my name
In the clatter of your horse's hooves."
"You'll hear my name
In the clatter of your horse's hooves."

ORIGINAL LYRICS:

The Original and The Legend who sang it, Leonid Kharitonov which is this guy who has a channel and also hearts people's comments will always be the best one, but I gotta say, there were actually improvements here that was really done better than the original that's why I think this is almost 70% good. These are the parts where I think it was an improvement and was done a little better than the original:

0:59 *everytime the choir harps at the beginning of the chorus, i love that and i often sing along with it*
1:07 *even this trumpet part of the chorus was an improvement, it feels so good to hear*
2:47 *the voices of the choir were now much clearer to listen including the guy whistling did it better!*
3:16 *i have to be honest, this was the biggest improvement when everyone raised their voices up higher and longer and then there was big "HHEEEYYY!!!" and they just kept continuing with such glorious energy in the music and their voices. But to be honest this part right here **5:01** was done even better where after the big "HHEEEYYY!!!" there was now a trumpet being played probably even louder than the rest which made it listening to this song a hundred times better and I'm so glad they did it a second time.* This part gets me hyped up because everyone and all of the instruments are singing and playing with the music altogether with such Enormous Glory and Energy in it. Frankly if I were to rate both covers of the song, I would say the Original had the Best Singer, though the singer in this video was also just good, but even better, he was just as Expressive as Leonid and I love that, and this one has the Best Choir and Musical Instruments, the original was good but because of the poor graphics which was old, it was quite hard to listen to the choir's voices. I can just imagine this being a Masterpiece if Leonid and this Choir including the Musical Instruments here in this Cover or Event were united and performed it. So yeah, the original and this one were both just as good and I love this so much, and I'm so glad you uploaded this Leonid. I would often listen to this and sing along with it especially in the chorus where everyone starts harping at the beginning of the chorus because I love that so much including the part *"Katya! Katya!

Btw, it's pretty cool for a Legend like Leonid who his such a Legendary Singer to still be giving Attention and Hearts to people's comments which is pretty cool and not many popular people does that, and I'm so grateful for that, and I can't believe he's not that popular yet around the world. The Alexandrov Red Army Choir has been probably one of the best Choirs I've ever seen, I'm glad I discovered your channel because of that video of *"Soldier's Dance"* that I found on accident. One of the best Masterpieces I've ever seen. ✨💖✨

Still a good version, but nothing beats the old legend Leonid Kharitonov. It’s like he owns this song!

Leonid did it so much better, i must say, because he really was enjoying singing it and was having fun, with his faces and the way he moved. He was in accordance with the spirit of the song.

Лучше Харитонова эту песню никому не удалось спеть ! Одна его только мимика была превосходной, не говоря о его чудесном голосе !!!

This singer hss a terrific voice, and I appreciate the differences in the orchestral accompaniment; the neigh at the end made me laugh! So glad the whistler was featured; I've been looking for them. But for me, Leonid Kharitonov's is the definitive version! Thanks for the upload.,

You can see, when they sing for the second time, how much more at ease volkov is. As if he felt immense pressure to do it well and then when he was ‘done’ felt a lot of relief and had fun. because his performance gets more expressive as he keeps on singing, especially in the repeat.

it musn’t be easy living up to a song specifically written for one guy, who also sang it with great expression. Leonid Kharitonov was truly a charmer but Igor Volkov did really well here too and its great seeing the choir have so much fun with songs like these. They’re more free and expressive in these ones, its a delight to see. Their smiles and laughs always manage to brighten days, even decades after they have sung it.

its nice to revisit this version every once in a while.

As a namesake of the singer, I have much nostalgia for this version, even though I've been listening to it for *just* 9 years!

Man, what a great song to listen to!
I think Igor Volkov sings it just as good as Leonid Kharitonov.
The brass section sounds terrific.
Thank you for sharing it with us!

I would pay all money on the earth that I know to sing like this guy. But Leonid is by far the best solist of Red army choir ever, so no one can compare to him.
