I'm just overjoyed how much success valve is having with the steam deck. Proof that you can respect gamers and still win big!

I already have my steam deck and it's been amazing so I have no reason to get the OLED model. But I will say, seeing that Valve still improves on the steam deck makes me really happy. I want Valve to continue to support it for many years to come.

For me the huge advantage of the steam deck over the switch is the fact that I have already bought 800 steam games and so would never need to buy a new game for the steam deck. If I rebought the 50 or so steam games that I own that are also available for the switch then this would cost me £1, 000.

Valve just did what Nintendo and Sony would never, improve everything about the steamdeck while keeping the price The EXACT SAME

Its crazy how Nintento charged 50 bucks more for the OLED model and people just accepted it meanwhile Valve did one of the most pro consumer things i've ever seen

This refresh is absolute insanity, and if they did this much for a 1.5 upgrade, the Steam Deck 2 is going to be God Tier. I actually kept putting off getting my Deck not because I didn't want one, but things kept coming up that forced me wait. Now I'm so glad I never jumped in, as this is the perfect time, and it's doubtful we'll get another refresh before the SD2.

And Valve has already said that's years away, so this should be good until then. The pricing is also great, as the two new OLED models pretty much take over the middle and top tier of the OG deck with OLED and better memory sizes. So not only did Valve offer a better device in everyway possible, you get all that for the same prices as before, this is just nuts(in the best ways possible).

Ever so slight correction, the new oled doesn't have more ram (still 16 gigs) just faster ram (6400mt/s instead of 5500mt/s)

Its also awesome how they even increased the storage for the different tiers on top of everything else! I'm thinking about getting one and selling my old model because this solved every little complaint I had with the original!

For me the Steam Deck( and the me-too devices that have come out since) are the most interesting pieces of gaming tech in the last 5 years. I already have a Steam Deck so I'm content to wait until a true Deck '2", but I've had enough fun with my current model that I can't even be bothered grabbing a PS5 or Xbox series.

Honestly Nintendo is kinda lacking right now

Wood's final thoughts sums up my own personal experience perfectly, my switch was the reason I got back into gaming, and my steamdeck is the reason I continue to game today!

The switch was (and still is) an amazing console when it first came out. Breath of the Wild revitalized my long lost love for gaming, and I figured as a casual gamer that's the only console I would need. I was also always a handheld gamer growing up (Gameboy Advance SP, nintendo DS, PSP, etc) so it felt like a waste of money to buy a PC or stationary console.

But as time went on, the switch's specs couldn't keep up and I felt like I was missing out on so many new games...in comes the Steamdeck. Every AAA title of the past 3 years or so I've been able to play portably! Elden Ring, FF7:Remake, God of War, Cyberpunk 2077, Lies of P, Armored Core 6, even COD: MW2 and Destiny 2 with a little Windows elbow grease! And then I still have my switch for those sweet first party exclusives like Super Mario Wonder and Tears of the Kingdom!

The Switch & Steamdeck is a double threat and they compliment each other so well. You really don't need anything else if you're a gamer coming from just a switch or an older console generation!

The APU is more efficient but it also has faster RAM which helps with framerate stability

It’s great to see that the steam deck got improvements, but I literally bought one this summer on sale after valve made statements about not making any upgrades anytime soon… just for them to a few months later release a substantially better version. I still love the one I have but damn that hurts

The reason God of War is having issues with frameskips in because the old steam deck is running (probably) SteamOS 3.4.11, while OLED Steam Deck has the new update 3.5 that improves cpu usage, has newer kernel, drivers and the new RADV pipeline enabled. They probably perform within margin of error.

valve effort for a "just refresh" is no joke, it's not only a mere better screen

Honestly its impressive on HOW much improvement the steam deck went through on this iteration.

Also you mentionned this improvement: it charges faster.

It CHARGES faster. Absolutely a game change for me in terms of only stopping home for a bit before heading out again.

Also performance isnt the main thing: they APPARENTLY use the same company for their OLED as nintendo.

Meaning the touch screen should be MORE accurate!

Can you confirm that for us Woods? If it is the touch screen should feel similar to nintendo

This isn’t even only a console, this can also be used as a desktop!

They've also radically lowered the prices of the old ones. You can get the 256 gigs for 399. The $350 price of entry... It's not much more expensive than like a Moto stylus.

The steam decks should be able to download from each other through the local network. Transferring games from your old steam deck to your new one should be super super fast
