Say what you will about Southgate...before his tenure England had won something like 2 or 3 knockout games across all competitions since 1966. He has more than doubled that. The Italy and Croatia games were there for the winning, and Southgate rightly gets stick for that, but don't let's pretend England perform better under 'proven' winners either. Capello anyone?

He got us to 2 finals which he deserves some credit for. My main criticisms of him are, he’s not an elite manager, he had virtually no experience at club level, he’s too cautious and his in-game management is lacking
