WHAT IS TALK HEATHEN?

Talk Heathen is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared toward long-form and on-going dialogue with theists & atheists about religion, theism, & secularism. Talk Heathen is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.

Talk Heathen is filmed in front of a live studio audience every week at the Freethought Library of the Atheist Community of Austin.

The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop & support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing & friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of government-religion separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists & to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.

We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

Took from 9 to 27 ... Jeez. Just goes to show how much of a grip this abusive crap has on our children and the young in general.

Atheists are forced into religion all the time.
Not necessarily to actually worship but to take part in it in multiple ways.
Having to sing hymns in school.
Swear on the Bible.
Etc etc.

I think a lot of christians don't really believe any of what the religion teaches but claim to be a member of the religion in order to get their "Get Out of Hell Free" card. You know, just in case.

From a very early age I knew I was an atheist, now know I'm atheist anti-theist.

When I was 5 or 6 years old, my parents gave me books about Aesop’s fables, Mother Goose stories, Fairy tales, etc., and almost all of those stories had talking animals. I asked my Dad if animals can really talk, and he told me that it was make-believe (which I later labeled Suspended disbelief). I put those books on my make-believe shelf, along with Mickey Mouse, Peter Rabbit, and Winnie the Pooh. One day my Presbyterian grandmother gave me a book of Bible stories for children. In the very first story, I found a talking snake. That book went straight to the make-believe shelf, where it has remained for over 65 years.

I got put in an international schooling system that was part of a sect (Indian) at 5 years old, until I was 15. Then after that got put into a Lutheran private school (best GPA average in the area/college prep).

There is nothing that anybody could have said to convert me to their religions. I think mainly because of my insanely anti-authority attitude (stemming from not understanding how people can hold such irrational beliefs/stories in order to impose control/law/authority). But throughout all those years, I was able to see how similar all these religions are, and people lose their mind over semantics and fairy tales.

I remember being at a basketball game with a cute girl form that Lutheran high school, and out of literally nowhere, she goes "Hey, you know you're going to hell if you aren't Lutheran right" and the dichotomy of someone being smart, pretty, outgoing but so stuck on her imposed beliefs without second thought. Just kind of wild, really showed me how anyone can fall for irrationality.

I do believe in a "higher" power though.
