Even if that dog wasn’t classified as an officer, I’d still fully support their actions.

I didn't know they had stab proof vests for police dogs. I have found my new mission of giving. Through my pet grooming business, I'm going to ask people if they would be willing to donate to a fund for stab proof vests. I'll also be donating money from my company to help these amazing dogs. And if I can give the handler a little peace of mind that his 4 legged partner will be safer, I'm all in. I'm glad I came across your channel, because I never would have known that this type of equipment even existed.

I ADORE that the K-9 officer yells "dont let him stab him"

Hearing the way the K9 officer was fearful of the dog being stabbed, tells you that he loves his dog. It was scary to watch the video. I am glad no police were hurt. Thank you for helping the K9's get vests!

Those dogs are the ultimate in bravery. He was so keen to get to work and do his job, straining at the leash to be released. Never a thought for his own safety. Wonderful animals!

The fact the officers waited till literally the knife thrust began

I'm a retired dog handler and I would never (nor should any handler) release my dog on a suspect that is KNOWN to have a knife in their possession. He's already armed...deal with it accordingly and without putting my dog in danger unnecessarily. In fact, most departments have policies that prohibited releasing a dog in situations like that.

Let me edit this to reiterate something for the smooth brained among us. I said, and I quote, "putting my dog in danger UNNECESSARILY." That implies, as is the case in this video, there are a number of other ways to handle this situation WITHOUT releasing the dog. Of course, if it came down to using the dog or a human would imminently lose their life, then yes, absolutely use the dog to its fullest potential. That said, the suspect was outside, away from innocent civilians, and most importantly, surrounded by law enforcement officers with what appearsto be the finest equipment and vehicles available. And not just normal beat cops but SWAT officers that are specifically trained to deal with above average threats. I believe a knife weilding oxygen-thief falls well within the realm of their capabilities. If not, and trust me when I say this, a working dog is not going to fix their issues.

I've probably never been more glad to see a suspect get shot, the idea of him stabbing that dog, while a cop just stands there would be completely unacceptable to me.

That guy didn't grab a blade thinking "I'll take this incase K9 gets released on me".. He was willing to take out anyone that was unfortunate enough to get near enough to him. SWAT couldn't have called that any other way

Friend of mine was a K9 sherriff's deputy, He had two K9s one was Explosives trained, one was Narcotics and chase trained. Both were absolute sweet hearts with their vests off, they lived with him and his wife and kids and were just part of the family. When the vest was on, one was still pretty chill since she was only for explosives and didn't chase so no need, the other was all business on the clock.

So happy the k9 was not stabbed and it was heartwrenching to hear the desperation in the officers voice to keep his k9 buddy safe.

Florida Man: "Gotta Make a run for it."
S.W.A.T. "He's left the residence."
Bork: "The snack has left the box."

bork-bork nom-nom really does strike fear into criminals. I have a friend whose dad is a K9 officer and they had arrested someone and took him to an interrogation room or something, they forgot that the room had a ceiling with panels. The thought the suspect was in the ceiling so they were talking about how to get him down. My friends dad says "We could send a dog up there to find him" suddenly from above them they hear "You don't have to send a dog, ill come back down." There was a peaceful resolution.

That is so awesome that you donated that money to that organization. You literally saved k9 lives.
