The Mystery Behind Why Bees Don't Fly At Night

As an ex-beekeeper, I think this is a "mechanism" of bees so, they don't fly inside the dimly lit hive. Bees only just land inside the hive or on a "landing board" and then crawl around inside. They rarely fly inside the hive, and I could see how flying inside the hive could hinder any bees that are currently in the action of storing pollen/honey or nursing larvae.

Lights On : Bee = I'm outside and can fly
Lights Off: Bee = I'm inside the hive and can't fly without bumping into things/bees.

It’s because the Parent Bees tell the kid Bees to be in before dark.

Or maybe because it's also dark in the bee's nest and there are no bees flying inside? Maybe they think they're in the nest when it's dark?

If you read the 1962 bee patent it explains how they were designed and why they can’t fly at night. I believe they’re supposed to be receiving an update sometime this year.

The light is part of the dielectric properties of the wing structure. The wings are cavernous under a scope, I hypothesize they are not capable of flying without light to interact with the wing structure. Hopefully they find out

I know bees have UV vision. I don’t know if maybe it has to do with that.

I have hives and of a night time recently we have had random bees buzzing around the lights of a night time.

Bees do fly at night but not for long, I see them mostly around light bulbs, but they still be flying tho😂😂
