How Do Honeybees Get Their Jobs? | National Geographic

Every honeybee has a job to do. Some are nurses who take care of the brood; some are janitors who clean the hive; others are foragers who gather pollen to make honey. Collectively, honeybees are able to achieve an incredible level of sophistication, especially considering their brains are only the size of sesame seeds. But how are these jobs divvied up, and where do bees learn the skills to execute them?

At 01:11 the drone has a varroa destructor mite on its thorax right in the middle. If we can just get those mites under control, the entire world of beekeeping will change for the better. At 03:15 those aren't honey bees, but they are also awesome! Thank you for sharing, bees are an endless source of learning and can lead us to a better understanding of our environment.

I love bees so much, so underappreciated.

Bees genuinely display a very organized society with even a systematic plan for spawning new colonies (colony expansion). I appreciate how thorough you are on the topic @NatGeo

That moment when you realise a colony of bees with tiny brains is more successful than humanity

Thank heavens for these wonderful creatures. If it wasn't for them, we'd be really hungry.

In the Holy Quran there is a chapter called “The Bees”

In which Gods creativity is shown through the instinct of the bees 🙏🏼

I wonder if there ever was a rebel bee. Like she couldn’t care about these phases and just do her thing.

The questions is: How much each bee gets paid?

This is the only insect that I defend from other humans. Especially coming from a city which relied on honey as a major economy during harsh days.

What about the living on welfare bees?

They look for a job at local beesnesses, but to get the job they want they need to know all of the proper buzz-words. But once they get accepted, that's when they get to rake in the honey!

Thanks for the wonderful footage! Is this a varroa mite riding on the back of the drone in the video? Varroa destructor is making the life of our busy honey bees even more difficult.

'And your Lord inspired to the bees, "Take for yourself among the mountains, houses, and among the trees and in what they construct. Then eat from all the fruits and follow the ways of your Lord laid down for you." There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colors, in which there is a healing for people.' (The Holy Quran 16:68-70)

So a male bee is just a male concubine?
