A Shadow of Things to Come (Colossians 2:16-17)

A shadow of things to come, familiar words to many believers when speaking about the feast days and sabbaths. Paul's teachings on these things in Colossians 2:16-17 are among the more popular verses used to prove the Torah doesn't apply today. But is this claim true? What is the context of Paul's letter here? What are the "things to come" that the festivals and sabbaths are shadows of?

Wow! What a great explanation of those verses! I’m so excited about being a part of His Kingdom! For now, we get to practice for the fulfillment of all things.

1Co 13:12  For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

So good! Yes, it is a blessing to have better understanding of a verse like this, especially since it has been misinterpreted for so long.

Well as usual, with all their teachings, clarity is given where confusion once existed.
Thank you all for all that you do.
May YHVH' peace be upon you.

Shabbat Shalom! Thank you for this excellent teaching, Brother David. When I was still in churchianity, I struggled with this passage, as it wasn't clear to me that Paul was discouraging the Colossians from observing those things. When I finally studied the actual translations from the Greek, it became clear that Paul was telling the brethren not to be discouraged from observing the feasts, just as explained in the video.

One item of note in the Nehemiah passage is that the Word was being read on the 1st day of the seventh month (Trumpets). The people were sad upon hearing the Word because of their sin, but were told to rejoice instead because the day was a Holy Day. The rest of the passage gives us a little more insight about what was done on that day. Shalom!

Concerning the things of God (verse 16) like the feast days, nobody outside the church is allowed to judge us, except, (verse 17) the body (Church) of Christ.
Nor are we to judge others outside the body of Christ.
(1 Corinthians 5:12)
“For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge?”

Isaiah 66.22For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
23And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.
24And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

Paul is preparing his Colossians for the new heavens and the new earth.

1Cor 5.8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Let us keep what Paul says is done away with? I use this verse.
Cleary not done away with !

Events being "fulfilled" doesn't negate keeping the feasts anyway.

Passover, in Egypt had already occurred before God gave the commandment to keep the feast to commemorate it.

Paul says Jesus is our Passover and to keep the feast.

It doesn't make sense to say we don't need to keep the Sabbaths, based on the notion that they have been "fulfilled" or to say that Paul says we don't need to, since Paul himself plainly said to keep the Passover and feast of unleavened bread.

We are looking forward to the consummation of the Kingdom of God (second coming of Christ), not feasts and festivals.

The Devil adds to or takes away from the word. Here in this passage are things to come. What’s will happen in future Sabbaths? A great celebration with good wine and food. Resting with the Lord conversation with the saints in the New Jerusalem. What is the anti-Christ saying? No celebrations. Or celebrate to drunkenness and do orgies and lust to excess.
