[How To] Transfer Playstation 2 (PS2) Save Game Files from PC to Console (or Vice Versa)

Learn how to transfer save game files between the PS2 and your computer easily! No longer can you say you can't get to the last level, because you can download save game files from the Internet!

Quick notes:

1) Yes, this works for both FAT and SLIM PS2 (hard or soft mod)
2) It might help to format the USB stick as ""FAT"" instead of ""FAT32"" if your PS2 doesn't recognize your thumb drive.
3) You can also try ""MCPASTE"" to copy files from the USB thumb drive to the memory card."

so glad i found this tutorial i tend to go to lots of game midnight releases so obviously i cant just plug in my ps2 and its screen it took me awhile to get this laptop cleaned up software wise and now that it can run perfectly even with the emulator playing a high class game i can now pass time at midnight releases and anything else with ease this is a great tutorial

Very informative. I always wondered what those usb drives on the front of my PS2 were for. Question: since this system is backwards compatible with my PS1, could I copy those from their memory cards in the same fashion?

I'm sitting here with the hex data of two memory cards, ripped via the "dump memory" recovery option of the fmcb setup menu:

my corrupted one (64mb 3rdparty) which registers "no data" but does not read as totally free (ie: reads only 42000kb free in top-right corner)
and a blank one (8mb official) formatted straight from the ps2 with only 1 game save file on it for comparison.

Using microsoft visual studio, I have even written in blanks to the bin file and restored the 8mb MC back on the ps2 (same process fmcb setup menu) to a completely blank state to isolate the save data. And surprisingly IT WORKS.

Right now I'm making comparisons and I still can't find many similarities. The corrupt (ofc with several years of saved data) has a lot more values where the same game data is allocated, however they seem to take up a lot more blocks than expected as well. I don't know where I should start and end with copying the old data in over-writing the new empty card. The card will often just show up with no data or as unformatted.

I'm going to continue trying, wish me luck on retrieving my work!
