Pro tip! Make use of common areas in your hall! If I was awake later than my room mate is or on the phone the common area was a great space about 7 steps away

Thank you so much! I just met my roommate, (we get assigned) and I’m so worried about all of it!

Thanks for the tips! The college I'll be attending next year uses an app to help us find roommates and the guy I'm talking to currently is a 76% match! I hope all goes well!

Thank you so much for posting this! So informative, and so many things that I would have never thought of. I'm sure you are helping others as much as you've helped me. ❤️

I’m kind of freaking out because I start my first year of college a month and a half from now 😭

Love all the points you made! I chose a random roommate, but we got matched super well😂 tons in common, but not so similar that we will get sick of it. Shes got cool stuff I want to learn about, and I have stuff she does too. Those who are worried, it 90% of the time is GOOD. Randomly though it can be rough, so talk to an RA, and if its super bad you can ALWAYS request to be moved.

Damn... We pay thousands of dollars for college. So why the hell they only offer tiny double rooms or even worse?!? Yes, there are single rooms sometimes but really a few

I feel like I’m lucky since my university has a roommate matching form! You fill it out and they match you up with someone based on how compatible you are

this gives me very much older-sister-giving-me-advice vibes 😩

Also from someone who went to summer camp for years, earplugs and a sleep mask are your best friends for noisy/bright roommates at night! It lets you sleep unbothered while still letting them do whatever!

I start literally next month on the 11th and I chose the random option for a roommate bc my class didn't have a page.

Most of these principles can be applied to any relationship/ friendship etc. Quite a lot of these items were issues discussed in my pre-marital counseling over twenty years ago. Learning how to live with other people. Most things are common sense, but not all parents/ households teach common sense and decency these days. To some people each of these subjects might be totally foreign.

This is honestly the scariest part about college for me by I’m scared I won’t find one or know how to find one. And I want to like them obviously and we both are similar

I'm happy you had a good experience. I've had roommates for awhile now and I am just now figuring out that if I am annoyed by something and I don't COMMUNICATE that I am annoyed and build resentment and get angry then that means I am the asshole. It inspires me to get better at saying no and saying when something bothers me. Communication is like 90 percent of a good roommate experience

AUDREY do you have any tips for out of state students? Specifically on packing and shipping stuff to school? I’m actually attending UT too so if you had any super specific tips they would be greatly appreciated!!!
