Favorite Mel Brooks story, when he was being interviewed recently, he was asked if they could ever make a Blazing Saddles today, he replied “Oh, we couldn’t even make it back then.”

No joke, I saw this movie on TV in the ‘80s and they bleeped “up yours” BUT NOT the N word! I literally fell off the couch!

Mel Brooks said the best way to get back at hate is to make fun of it.

I think the actor playing the sheriff, Cleavon Little, genuinely laughed at Gene Wilder's "moron" comment, which I believe was ad libed.

People have to remember this was a movie that made fun of racism/racists.

The line, "you know, morons." Was adlibbed and the laughter was genuine.

@The Mirandalorian Reacts: Yes, Sheriff Bart's reaction when Jim said "You know....morons" was legitimate. Gene Wilder ad-libbed the line and it caught Cleavon Little off guard.

People need to remember that this is a Mel Brooks movie and in all of his movies he made fun of all races and cultures. The difference now is so few people have a sense of humor. One of the keys to life is to be able to laugh especially at yourself. I absolutely love this movie. Mel Brooks was a genius.

"You Know -- Morons!" was adlibbed by Gene Wilder!

Fun Fact: Cleavon Little actually broke character with Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks decided to keep it in the movie 😂😂

I always find how some are so outraged/insulted by the few times Brooks used the word in this one movie, yet those same individuals don't bat an eye when Tarantino uses it over 100 times(The Hateful 8/D'Jango). A bit hypocritical to say the least.

Gene Wilder was infamous for ad-libbing and trying to get real emotion out of his co-stars. Yes he did ad-lib the "morons" line just to break him. And it fit perfectly with the scene.

The Gen Z get offended and the Gen X laugh. Sounds about right.

Good on you for including the apple pie and her "apology"

Fun fact: that lady grew up in the actual Old West. She was one of the last of her generation to have done so.

"You know morons" is my favorite line improvised by Gene Wilder, my second favorite is "Where are the white women out."

Mel Brooks was a genius. I think he made fun of every race, gender, and creed. This movie was made to make fun of racism. And back then, jokes were how things were dealt with.
