CLIP DESCRIPTION:
When Bart (Cleavon Little) rides into town as the new sheriff, the citizens are stunned.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Vulgar, crude, and occasionally scandalous in its racial humor, this hilarious bad-taste spoof of Westerns, co-written by Richard Pryor, features Cleavon Little as the first black sheriff of a stunned town scheduled for demolition by an encroaching railroad. Little and co-star Gene Wilder have great chemistry, and the delightful supporting cast includes Harvey Korman, Slim Pickens, and Madeline Kahn as a chanteuse modelled on Marlene Dietrich. As in Young Frankenstein (1974), Silent Movie (1976), and High Anxiety (1977), director/writer Mel Brooks gives a burlesque spin to a classic Hollywood movie genre; in his own manic, Borscht Belt way, Brooks was a central player in revising classic genres in light of Seventies values and attitudes, an effort most often associated with such directors as Robert Altman and Peter Bogdanovich . Some of this film's sequences, notably a gaseous bean dinner around a campfire, have become comedy classics.

Should've extended the clip a couple more seconds, "Son, you're on your own!"

I genuinely believe this to be the most perfectly written and executed scene of comedy in any entertainment. Not because of the racism (though that gives it context). It's the deliveries, the body and facial language, the timings, and even sound design, all beautifully synthesized.

all of you claiming racism on this one. Richard Pryor wrote 90% of the script. the launguage is supposed to be sarcastic not racism.

Edit: Everyone saying you didn't see any comments on people claiming racism, is because You Tube removed the original conversation that I commented on a couple years ago. It was a conversation between two guys who one believed the racism was intentional and they didn't need it for the movie. The other individual was in belief that the sarcastic way racism was used made the jokes more of a social commentary. They both threw around a lot of "n" words at each other & You Tube removed it.

Cleavon Little was such a talented, funny and charismatic actor. You would think that after he was so entertaining in Blazing Saddles that his career was going to skyrocket. I saw an interview years later where he talked about that same expectation. Basically silence. He returned to New York and found his true love to be on the stage. He said that he loved developing the character throughout the run of the play. He said every show was a little different because you can experiment with adding or subtracting subtle nuances of the character. But he said you do your scenes in movies and move on. Sad he never got more chances in Hollywood. He said stage work was the first time he was really happy. So it's nice the way he found what truly made him happy and got to do it for years. He always had ulcers and digestive problems and sadly died of colon cancer at the age of 53 years old.

A funny movie and scathing social commentary rolled into one. Great stuff.

"a laurel, and hearty handshake..." - Howard Johnson, the innkeeper, portrayed by John Hillerman. Everyone was cast perfectly in this classic! R.I.P. Mr. Hillerman, and thank you for your timeless contributions to television and cinema!
