Thanks Tom, I really appreciate your channel and is very informative and I look forward to all your presentations. We at home have changed to Linux a few months ago (we had a enough of Windows spying etc.) and we have settled on Linux Mint great operating system no real problems so far.

The printer set up is awesome. I just turned on my Canon MG3600 series printer for the first time on Linux Mint 22 and was able to print wirelessly in less than a minute.

My Linux Mint desktop setup is pretty vanilla. Two monitors, it automatically found my wi-fi printer, nvidia card, and everything works like a charm. Heading into my 43rd year of computer usage, and I use Mint because - 1. it's not Windows, and 2. it just works for ALL my wants/needs.

Cinnamon has its own embedded recording feature support. Pressing Shift+Ctrl+Alt+R starts the screen recording, and ends when you press-it again. The video will be saved in your home folder.

I finally switched my primary desktop to LMDE from windows. I was happy that all the software I need was easily found and runs perfectly on Linux. The one thing that about drove me mad was trying to figure out how to connect to a shared drive on a windows machine that would reconnect automatically on boot. In windows I could just map the share…but, in Linux all the instructions I found were slightly different and the first 5 I tried didn’t work. FINALLY I found instructions that worked but seems way too complicated for a task I would think would be very common. I had to make a credentials file then protect it then edit some other file that would connect to the share and use the credentials file to log into the share. It was very complicated compared to windows however I still feel it was worth it as I despise windows at this point

Being able to remove a package in Terminal is good training. I actually did a video on orphan files in Linux Mint not long ago. Someone from Arch Linux said it could be done with the Terminal, but because he was from Arch didn't know the command. Now my question is how do we know the actual name of the package to remove? Like for CrazyDiskInfo the simple command sudo crazy runs it. Thanks.

Fun fact, in home create a ".hidden" file and put any folder or file names in that file (1 per line) and it will hide them without changing their name. Hide files/folders that cannot be renamed!

Question for you and or subs.
I downloaded a .deb to install, open permissions and selected run as executable. Click open with gdebi installer but there is no option to install, it's greyed out. I opened downloads folder with root excess but still not working.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks LM22

Its generally the hardware that causes grief with Linux. While most distros will have some form of printer setup and it generally works, it's always a good idea to grab the drivers from the manufacturers website if available. If I use the default drivers in Fedora for my printer, double sided printing is always screwed up.

I have an old laptop but I can't install any Linux distro on it because of a firmware bug, the mouse start to stutter and then the image freezes, the laptop have a nvidia gpu and amd cpu. Windows works fine.

If your laptop does not have a wi-fi driver, you need get a driver dongle, down side is it needs to be inserted in an USB port, but it works fine. 😊

Wifi was working fine for me since I installed LM22 but just today it doesn't recognise my wifi driver at all (even after restarting and fully shutting down my computer). It only worked when I boot into Windows first THEN boot LM again for wifi to work again. I'm not sure what happened between last night and this morning.

Anyone else having issues with an nVidia card and installation? I used compatibility mode during the install so I did get it installed but upon rebooting in to the fresh install all I get is a black screen. I tried pressing the down-arrow during boot to select a 'safe' mode again but the screen does not even have a 1sec timeout in order for me to select it. I cannot get to the desktop in order to install the nVidia drivers :(
