10 strand Matthew Walker + 5 strand plait

This is a 10 strand variation of how I start most of my bellropes and keyfobs. The 5 strand plait is very easy. The 10 strand Matthew Walker is on the other hand is much harder. Having said that if you take it one step at a time, don't cut corners, and put it together in a methodical way you should get the hang of it. It is after all just a series of overhand knots, easy eh?!
Hope this is of some use, please let me know. If you like my video please share and like, It all helps.

All the cord I use in my videos is made by me on my own rope walk. I sell cord in a range of colours through my shop, here's the link.

I learnt this MW tying method from Mikko Snellman who has some really wonderful knotting videos. I'll put a link below, he also sells great knotting tools and hard laid cord.

I'm in boy scouts and I've been deemed the "knot guy" of our troop for my interest, knowledge, and skill of all the knots and more that we use in boy scouts. I just want to say that this knot is beautiful and I would really like to incorporate it into some of my knot related projects soon. It was well explained and fairly easy to follow. Good job!

The MW knot is very handsome! First time I've ever watched someone else tie it. As a young sailor(US Navy), I purchased Clifford Ashley's Book of Knots in 1972. During a 6 month deployment to SE Asia, I taught myself to tie many knots, eventually learning the MW. I've only tied it with 6 strands, and I commend your 10 strand example. My other favorites to tie are the Turks Head and Monkey Fist. I guess I need to get back into a bit of macrame' and fancy rope work. Thanks for posting this!

I remember seeing kids in high school making this braid for key holders over 50 years ago. I could barely hear the instructions, instructor is very soft spoken. Very interesting video, thank you.

Wow! I like that... My dad made me spend an entire summer learning how to do macrame. I hated it back then but I have been using those knots all my life for different things. Thank you for showing this one, I have seen it but never saw it being made.

This is a very very good video. I have watched it twice and the second time I was holding my breath when you were pulling the loops up tight. I can see how important that is to be patient. Thank you for such a good video. I am working on one right now.

This is an excellent knot. I like making these things for keys - this would be great as the ends could then by turned into individual holders with a running knot.

Wow I'm speechless. I can tie any fishing knot. Never thought of trying something a little bigger. I stopped by your store and took a look. The one I like is the hemp look. When you get more in stock. I would love to tie some new knots. Thanks for sharing

Fantastic piece of knotting: it makes me feel a wimp for not tying more than four stands. I love the idea of the cords finding their place. Thanks.
