Today on HTV, Pr. Borghardt talks about how we identify ourselves. Are we called Lutheran or Christian? Does it make a difference?

As you define the term, I am "Lutheran"!  Yet, my primary identification [as Luther even promoted before all other identifying terms regarding faith], I am "Christian".

My Lutheran friends do not agree with this —- they say they are in no way considered to be Catholic

Christian 1st, Lutheran for the sake of differentiating.

How do I get over not being able to believe? My faith isn’t strong enough

What about Catholic Christians who believe that we are heretics bound for hell and that the narrow opening to heaven is only for them? I've heard Catholics say with absolute confidence that Lutherans who do not believe that The Holy Bride (The Catholic Church) is the only worship vessel acknowledged by God. A discussion of this belief, why they believe it and why it's wrong would be appreciated. Thanks!

I’m thinking the terms/labels are important to now what church you are attending. For example what if a catholic walks into a non denominational church and wants to confess his sins. And all he has is some kid telling him that bible says In short, we confess our sins to God so we can receive his forgiveness. Don't be mistaken – forgiveness is already available to us through Jesus! Colossians 2:13-14 gives us a powerful reminder that through Jesus, God is able to cancel the record for our sins.

But Tommy is looking at him are you crazy.. I need 17 Hail Marys and carnal human like myself to tell me what to do!

The term "Roman Catholic" is also derogatory. Christ's church is the "Catholic church" not the "Roman Catholic church." That's a protestant term.

Great topic and explanation. What we know and feel is not always easy to verbalize succinctly.

I guess I was a Lutheran but never knew what it really was lol. My sister and I were really young and got kicked out of the Lutheran Church we attended because my sister said something or asked something that wasn't allowed. That's what I was told anyway. 🤷

I am thinking of joining the Lutheran. Church, but it seems to me, lutherans seem to be more concerned about being identified as lutheran than christian, and i agree with lutheran doctrine, saved by grace

Should I "JOIN" the Lutheran church I go to? I've been afraid to. I was taught that it's wrong to join a man made group, and sign a piece of paper announcing myself as a statistic numbered as a church member. But I do like being Lutheran :)

I call myself a "follower of Christ". But Grace alone is the gift!

Catholic believe in the Virgin of Mary. They are lead my Pope. They will pray and worship Mary alone. How are they Christians, and Lutheran?

Sorry but Lutheran is not Catholic we are Lutheran not Lutheran Catholic or Catholic Lutheran just Lutheran. Yes the Apostles Creed dose have the word catholic in it but with an asterisk ✳️stating that it means in that case is meaning through out the whole not that we are part of the Catholic church. (Small c ) We are Lutheran Not ( big c) Catholic. No I don't agree with their way / belief when it comes to communion it should be remembrance of Christ death and resurrection. Not Jesus body is now in the eucharist and blood in the wine. No not at all Lutherans may believe this Catholic traite.

I'm a descendant of 400 years of Lutherans. I simply follow the teachings of a Rabbi who converted to Christianity. We both consider ourselves brothers in the Lord. Many Lutharans do not believe in grace alone, even though they say they do. There are always artifacts like "baptismal regeneration". Like Catholics they focus on the "forgiveness of sins" and the crucifixion for salvation instead of the return of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that was lost in Adam.

Have people asked themselves, "Why do I need to make a distinction between myself and other believers?"

1 Corinthians 1:3
And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. 2I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; 3for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? 4For when one says, “I am of Paul, ” and another, “I am of Apollos, ” are you not carnal?

I'm Catholic, but Lutherans seem pretty cool.

Jesus said, "Believe only, and she will be saved." (Luke 8:50

Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life. He shall not come into condemnation, but has passed from death to life. (John 5:24)

Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes on Me has eternal life." (John 6:47)
