NASA's 'time machine' spots unexpected galaxies forming in the early universe

A team of researchers from the University of Texas have discovered something unexpected in new data collected last July by the James Webb Space telescope: barred galaxies. "It was an absolute adventure, in the sense that this is not what we were looking for," said Shardha Jogee Ph.D. with UT's Department of Astronomy.
