re: 5:55 in, you can change layer opacity. click the top left corner of the layer window. it increases the size of the window to give you editing options. there should be a sliding bar to adjust opacity.

That program is the ultimate multitasking tool. You just make it transparent and draw while watching youtube videos. Makes me worried!

Hey Sycra, I love your Channel & your Art-Style so much! You were an inpiration for me since i started painting digitally, since i'm just a 13 year old Artist. I hope you notice my comment, if you did i just want to say Thank you! ♡

Mischief really looks a lot better than it did before. Pointing out what you missed has helped reassure me to probably get it myself. I was really unsure at first, but it's showing it can be something worth while.

One other program I've been curious about is the latest OpenCanvas. It's apparently changed a lot since 5.5 so I wonder if you'll ever cover it?

I really like the interface, it's clean and mostly monochrome that way it's less distracting than other painting programs

Interesting thing is I got took this kind of video from the other point of view. I knew I want to use Krita because it's a opensource software for linux OS and probably the best one for linux desktops. And I found your video and started following because you do very interesting videos. Unlike people who already follow your steps and choose some of the software you recommend. Anyway, what I wanted to say, thanks for checking out those programs. It's good to know there's still someone who cares about more than photoshop.

I love the character.  Your use of perspective, like on her hand, is great.

To get the transparancy adjustment its the little dot looking icons on top of the layer frame. Its collapsed by default so you need to expand it to have access to the adjust transparencies. the brushes are the same as well, you can fine tune the taper to width ratios if you expand the brush frame.

End result looks like something Slugbox would paint.
Nice video, thank you Sycra.

Thanks for going over this, I've been struggling to find something for doing character development sketches and notes that isn't as pen focused as manga studio or as color focused as PS. I grabbed a copy.

Thanks for sharing. The layers panel does expand to show opacity and other options. Click the arrows or the dots on the top of the layers panel. I don't remember which one at the moment.

What absolutely amazed me was how you were able to quite successfully pick the colors for the skin that was beneath the semi-transparent clothing fabric. Sure, I could do that, but unfortunately, because I am not quite proficient with colors, it would take me twenty minutes what you probably did in a minute.

It's mostly the color scheme (stockings and her top a little bit, too) but she kind of reminds me of Cerebella from Skullgirls.

Mischief looks more like my style...
I'll have to try it out.

I got this program about a week ago, and I'm a fan of the infinite canvas..partly because I think it has some really nice upsides for print art work(not sure on this as I haven't tried to make any artwork posters on it yet..but my education in the field would suggest that you could really benefit from vector grade art here). Another thing I like to do is drop a bunch of tracing practice drawings on to the infinite canvas and just have a huge tracing/study session.

As I've only used the newer version I'm not sure if the options in the settings are new or not, but there is some stuff there that is worth a look also. Will be interesting to see where this program goes now that its owned by Foundry and have Chris Cheung working on it (who was involved with autodesk SketchBook)

Also thanks for the review, was looking forward to this and it was great to see you draw & paint/color with it.

I tried Mischief because I saw this video... And for some reason, the lines lagged behind my pen... And that drove me crazy.

I also tried MyPaint right after and I feel it's much more comfortable for sketching as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks for the tips on choosing software. Ignoring the gimmicks and all that is a good idea. Eventually, programs are tools and everyone should use the tool that is comfortable for them.

By the way, I really like the drawing you made in this video... The body proportions are something I'm not used to seeing from you... And that's cool.

so Sycra, I was wondering if you prefer to paint white characters or if I just haven't seen any of your POC paintings? Also, do you have a preferred type of character that you enjoy painting? Like for me, when I draw females, I like to draw them with short hair rather than long. I guess it's because I have short hair... I don't really know.
