Remember that 343i was GUTTED by Microsoft awhile back. Reports saying up to 2/3rds of the entire studio left in massive layoffs. It’s now WAY more new folk than I think most people realize.

The best part about this is that when we rant about Halo, we’ll now have to expressly distinguish between the studio and the franchise. Can’t name a different time in video game history where the developers shared a name with their games, that’s for sure

I got excited until I realized they just rebranded and said virtually nothing about killing old practices

343I replaced by contractors who actually created their games. 55 separate consultant companies made Halo 4. Consultant company made or modernized the Slip Space engine with code dating back 20 years. The actual 343I lacks talent, their former head Bonnie Ross just had contractors make their games while using 343I has the moniker. Developers have said it, work for MS 18 months and you're done. Half of the team working in the office on Halo Infinite were contractors plus contracting art assets out to other companies. Gears of War developers had to come in and help out with multiplayer and graphics. The actual 343I didn't know how to use their tools at all and had to bring back the engine engineer. They contracted Bungie to develop the lore the called the Halo Bible. It was shocking to find out how little the actual Halo Studio teams are involved during the actual development. They were more like development supervisors. Hopefully the rebrand Halo Studios have actual developers who are competent at their jobs.

Part of 343 was in charge of the slipspace engine. They said it felt like part of the studio was too worried about being a tech company instead of a game developer. So this is really good, now the entire estudio can just work on making Halo amazing.

They’ve been replaced by themselves. 343 just went over to the business office, told them to change the name, went to an agency, told them to change the logo, and that’s it.

Why we acting like these people aren’t 343?
