It is kinda affordable, but you can get a used rx 6800 for just a bit more, and it has double the VRAM with better performance

The 3070 I had was an insane card when I was gaming at 1080p. When I replaced my old, dead 1080p monitor with a new 1440p monitor a year and a half ago, I began to run into VRAM limitations and being rather picky about visual quality in gaming, I replaced it with an RX 7900 XT for much less money ($700 on a one-day special) than the 3070's price during the gpu crunch. Nvidia has made and still makes bad decisions in being miserly about VRAM on it's graphics cards, essentially truncating the life of their card's usefulness in gaming. The extra features of cards below an RTX 4070 Ti become less attractive when a card can nearly become obsolete within a few months, given the escalating demands of many of today's and tomorrow's games.

I can stand by the 3070. Used it for 4 years, bests the 4060 and even perhaps equals the 4060 Ti.

I'm buying RX 6800 for $250, double the RAM, slightly faster depending on the game. For 8 GB cards, RX 6700 XT for $200 is close second.

RTX 3070 is a good alternative to newer Nvidia cards in the price range.

rx 6700/6750 xt is more futureproof with 12 gb memory, I think even used rtx 2080 ti is better than rtx 3070 )

If you can find it for $200 secondhand it's worth it. I picked my EVGA FTW3 3070 for that. For the $250-300 price range I'd personally go AMD to get that sweet VRAM, even if RT performance takes a hit - most of us aren't using that anyay.

i bought a 3070 for my ''budget am5 sim racing build" and it's performance is awesome for the 275 that i spent, and it does really well up to 1440p for me.
