How to Steam and Reshape a Hat - Village Hat Shop

Periodically, felt hats can become misshapen. In order to get your felt hat back up to snuff, you can use the wonderful power of steam!

Turn on your tea kettle and create some steam. Don't soak the brim with this steam, but rather carefully expose the turned up brim to the steam. It should soften somewhat. Then train your brim to the result that you are looking for. Go back and forth between steaming and training. The hat should eventually "remember" the way it was originally blocked.

can this technique be used as well for giving a hat a new shape .. say a fold down, as upposed to up on a wool felt crushable hat.?

Will this work on a hat that doesn’t have stiff wool? I have a yellow 108 branded hat, in the “Luke” model, that has lost its curve. Nothing seems to work.

Wear vynyl or latex gloves for protection so you don't get burned by the steam when reshaping the hat. How was this safety tip not included in this video?
