Rick explains the tips and tricks on how to sharpen your Silky Saw.

There are two, mostly little known tips for sharpening Silky Saws that will have you re-sharpening your Silky like a metate. A metate is a Japanese Master Sawyer.

If you ignore these tips, you will be missing the secret sauce that makes sharpening Japanese tri-edge, pull saws easy.

Spent a while chatting with Rick and Nita the other day.
Was a pleasure!
Hoping to convince national parks to purchase some gear for clearing and fire breaking.
Very happy with my personal purchase.
Thanks guys!

Awesome, thanks. Will rehab my Katanaboy 650 over the winter to prepare for next year's trail work.

2022...8/13...Thank you, some years later, for your very informational video. Sure took the mystery out of the technique or method to put the edge on such a handy tool.

Do you have the links to the original videos showing them use the wooden vice 2:05? I’d like to make one myself. More footage would help me replicate it. Thank you.

Excited to try this. I thought the blade was a throw away.

Cheers!

Sorry I have mentioned a wrong name for the File. As per Q & A in this site it should be read as "Diamond Shape Feather File".
Your cooperation is mostly welcome.

Not counting the tip (A) in your diagram, it is hard to tell if you are only filing one tooth at a time, which would mean you are only filing half of the faces of the teeth with two (2) passes of filing. Do you actually do (4) passes of filing (two on each side of the blade) or...does the diamond file actually cut two teeth at one time which would mean you only need two passes? I hope this makes sense, I am a little confused. BTW, I think your video is the best one out there covering this topic.

Thanks for this. I see that a diamond "Silky" blade is quite expensive compared to other diamond files. I assume that the price is due to the brand, and no other difference?

Good video. Not counting the tip, it seems that you are discussing only sharpening 1/4 of the sides on one side, then flipping it over and then sharpening 1/4 of the sides, thus in total, only sharpening 1/2 of the sharpened sides of the teeth?

Question. Im trying to recover a blade that has been misfiled, by me actually. When u file A does the angled piece slope towards the handle or the tip. Assuming its the same for both sides. Thanks
