It’s a collection mail box. They’re regulated blue, but this is sci-fi future stuff, but it’s still a collections box. It’s one way. It flips so you can’t reach your hand in. If you look around your town you’ll find one somewhere.

There are trash cans with a pull handle made specifically so birds can’t get into the trash

Well the door had the design of a envelope so yeah.. But the sides of the mailbox got a similar design to it, so maybe that's why it was confusing

I know in Alaska they have bear trash bins. You gotta pull them a certain way to open them, which prevents bears from opening the trash and eating it.
