Remote Desktop Tunnelling through SSH

Here is a video highlighting the power of using an SSH server to tunnel all of your RDP (Remote Desktop) sessions.

This method will allow you to connect to a number of machines at the remote location as long as you're aware of the internal IP's and credentials of the machines you wish to connect to.

I will put a video u pon how to perform this on a linux host, but here is a basic shell command to get this donw.


If you wish to connect to several machines, include another -L

Thanks! This tutorial helped. Although for some reason I couldn't connect to the remote PC using local port 3390, but 3391 worked fine. So if 3390, or even 3391 doesn't work for you, try other ports.

I have a question.... did you setup by opening a port on your local machine instead of direct port forwarding for security reasons, because it is good practice to do so. Connecting through a local port so your not putting your machine directly on the web. I think that its funny that they offer putty in the software store in linux when everything happens in the terminal anyway, that being said it is a lot easier to do it your way with the gui. Or if you really like to look at something filezilla is filled with a ton of functions. Personally for windows I like bitvise because it really has everything all wrapped into one and more. Good vid helped me remember a security trick..

So do you have this on linux yet? . Do you prefer tunneling trough openvpn ? is stunnel the same way woth openssl? so if i have openssl do i need to install stunnel? thanks

Nice Video, got some newbie questions though:
-source and desinations hosts a windows machine and will need an SSH server running on them?
-For a sysadmin stand point, could you confirm your method comes in handy to access other servers but not client machines where usually no ssh server is or should be running
