In this video we are checking out the Jamstik MIDI guitar's by Jamstik. This is a really cool guitar that doubles as a midi controller with it's midi pickup it has built into it. It can send MIDI via USB C, Bluetooth, or TRS Midi. It tracks really well and has some great software that works with it, but also can be used with anything that accepts MIDI.

I love how it’s just a solid guitar as well it’s not just midi and it’s H SS one of the most versatile set ups with midi 😱😱😱 most versatile studio tool in the world

Can't believe how many reviews I had to watch until I saw someone talk about bending.
Thanks.

I'm a guitarist who's getting into film scoring.. been slowly learning to play the keys but my guitar skills and thinking are much more developed. So this sounds like verrry interesting tool to add to my arsenal and speed up my scoring and recording abilities. Thanks for the video!

I've got a Godin 3-voice LGX-SA, 2000 model IIRC. I had been coveting a Roland compatible controller since they arrived on the market, and that desire was boosted through the years by my being a fan of artists who use/used such gear (like Fripp and Belew). In 2016 I finally sprang for a used model (it was $600 on eBay!). I really love that it's neck thru body, and the rosewood fretboard (I admit I really wanted the whale blue flame top but 'settled' for the cognac). Also, at that time I didn't have any fixed bridge guitars so I was happy to have that (to hold tune better). One thing that annoys me is that if I keep the hex cable plugged in, the on-board 9V battery drains no matter if it's in use. The other thing that limits the time I spend playing it (as opposed to my Schizoid PRS and just HX Stomp - I'm only a home tinkering player) is that patch selection - either on the guitar using paddle switch up/down or on the Boss GP-10 foot switches - is count up/count down. That is, you want to get from patch 11 to patch 40, you have to walk all the way through. Of course you can program your favorite patches closer together. (Maybe I should revisit that.) Also, I'm not 100% thrilled with the factory PUs. Anyway, I look forward to watching this whole review tonight after work.

Ive owned this for a while and have had a hard time ( simply because lack of knowledge) with the midi set up and usage in the daw. Thanks for the help in the video scott!

MIDI is pretty consistently mind blowing. Special pickups, Tracking, latency, and the complications of getting it to work without struggling have always made me hesitant.

MIDI Guitar 3, which does not require any special hardware/pickups is looking pretty interesting as well. Tracking has improved a lot over the years with using the guitar as the Controller. Thanks

Bit late for an April Fool's, Scott. This thing cannot be real 😂

Like 10 years ago I always wanted my guitar to play like a synthesizer when when the keyboard player didn’t show up 😁

Holy moly. I can't believe its taken me this long to find someone playing the Jamstik with an Albion or Spitfire library. THANK YOU. Could you speak a little more to that? How does it respond to those types of libraries?

Awesome video, i have the GK3 pickup with the sy1000 and the GR55, as well as the Jam Origins MidiGuitar2 plugin. Both options are pretty good, but the roland/boss options dont track midi very well. jam Origins might a bit better, this is definitely interesting and looks like it tracks well. The sound quality and tonal expansiveness of DAW instrument plugins are just phenomenal, so in definitely always looking for the best option, especially since i kind of suck at keyboard, ha ha.

I just so don't need one of these...why, oh why, do I want one? LOL!

If they did a bass version I would buy this instantly. Theres an Australian company that makes midi basses but I dont like the P-bass style that they do them in.

Thnx for a great review of this item. What I’m curious about is if the improved MIDI tracking is dependent on using the Jamstik SW, or if it works fine with any other MIDI SW plugins. As mentioned by others, the use of GK-3/GR-55 (and similar) with MIDI SW instruments can be a bit of a challenge. How would you rate the MIDI tracking of the Jamstik guitar cmp to MidiGuitar 2 (v3 beta) or GK-3/GR-55 when using any given MIDI SW instrument ?

Hello! Is there any performance benefit in running through USB C as opposed to say Bluetooth? I'm just thinking bout the most logical way to run this in a studio setting where low latency would be a primary factor - thank you!

So, I'm guessing that to get some really authentic sounding acoustic pianos, classic Hammond organ, cello, dobro, Wurlitzer etc.. whatever, I mean natural sounding instruments other than ambient synth stuff, you'd need to use the external MIDI or USB into some other software or to hardware? Or does Jamstik have those synth packs available? AND.. are there built-in arpeggio pattern choices available in software as in playing a single note (or 2 notes maybe triad) and arp sound something like the Pink Floyd Dark Side synth effect for example or another example maybe like Duran Duran Rio or ZZ Top's Legs and others.. et al?
