Testing A Car Alternator With A Multimeter-Easy Tutorial

In this video, I go over the basic steps for testing a car alternator with a multimeter. If you want to make sure that your car's alternator is charging the battery properly, then you can definitely take the appropriate steps with a multimeter to make sure that it is happening. If you are not getting the proper readouts with the multimeter when you are checking the alternator, then you have to start figuring out if you need a new one or if it is simply a problem with the electrical connection of the alternator.

Yep all correct, but there's also amp output. For instance my 2010 Acura alternator checks out at a charging voltage of 14.2, diodes check good (duh, I find that odd to even state), but fails on amp output.

Oh, and I recently had a new starter put on as well was working fine actually I put a new starter and a brand new battery worked fine for about two months and this issue started

What if your battery is fully charged will the alternator go into trickle charge mode at a lower voltage?

What could it be if my volts are dropping to 12.8 even to 11.8 even though I replaced the alternator with a brand new alternator the alternator that I took out had tested, and it turned out to be good, but yet my volts are still dropping, especially once I turn the air conditioner on. If I’m driving on the highway with air conditioner on it stays around 13.5 to 14 V but once I stop it drops to 12.3 or lower but never lower than 11.5
