This is a great review.. I decided to keep my EF24-70 f2.8 II because my main focus is a photo shooting not the video. Your reveiw helped me a lot..

Dude for real I'm blown away by the lack of focus breathing on the RF lens!! Seriously that's all I was paying attention to after you mentioned that! Like, wow!!

For my needs the 24-104 f/4 is a winner for walk-a-bout's. That and the 16-35 f/2.8 is pretty much all I need. Sometimes the 70-300 f/3.5 to 5.6 is selected, but it's beast to lug around. No need to look at mirrorless right now as I mostly do stills and for video 1080/30 works just fine. I'm keeping the 5D IV until it wears out. Sorry, no more money to Canon for awhile. 😊

The function ring is also available in the expensive version of the EF to RF adapter, and here its close to the body, so you dont hit the focus ring by mistake.

I have mostly EF L glass and in my opinion, you're essentially throwing away money to buy the new stuff unless your someone making money from your photography and can see a need for a feature that the old glass lacks. There's plenty of studies where the new glass isn't optically any better than the EF counterpart.

The RF version has huge focus breathing but it is compensated by software in camera only for video. Also the RF is not guite 70mm but somewhere 62mm or less in short distances because of the focus breathing in picture mode. Its also a dust and particle sucker. I'll keep my EF version. But thanks for your very good produced video. Cheers

Excellent presentation. Exactly what I was looking for. As a person who left Canon for Sony A7 II and now tip toeing back to Canon for photography, this video speaks to me. Thanks!

Another great comparison. I own both and still find this focal length zoom my go to more than 90% of the time. I just can’t let go of the EF version so it always sits on another body to grab and go, just in case. 😂 I also own the Fuji equivalent F2.8 zoom option for my XF mount bodies. For those who adapt lenses, the EF version also pairs very well with the Fuji GF medium format series. Just saying.

I know these are the same but for R bodies I’d get the RF28-70. I gave the EF24-70 adapted and it is fine but the 28-70 is special. I stopped using my primes in this range. Can’t say enough about this lens even at the price.

This was nicely done. I had the EF 24-70 f2.8 II for many years paired with the Mark II. I loved that combo and got a lot really good pictures from it. I've only rented the new RF 24-70mm once and it seemed excellent. I did buy the RF 28-70mm f/2.0. It's a beast but there's something missing from the new mirrorless systems that the old Canon DSLRs had and I can't put my finger on it. Sometimes the visceral can eclipse the technical.

For stills save your money and stay with the EF, video sure go RF. The quality of the EF II is superb.

I shoot a lot of video too, so I appreciate the extra latitude from the stabilization. That said, probably the best thing about the RF is what it is going to do to the price of the EF. Used EF 24-70 2.8 for sale $600. I like that!

Nice comparison.
I missed with which camera were you comparing autofocus, but I'm almost certain that the delay is due to camera rather than the lens.
I have an R6 and I have Auto Focus menu where I can tweak responsiveness and at the most sensitive setting the response is immediate, as soon as something enters the frame. Extremely useful for wildlife photography where you can be tracking a fast subject that pops into and out of frame, regardless of the lens.

AF settings menu was the biggest and the most pleasant surprise when I went from my 90D to R6. I was like "HEY! THIS IS CHEATING!"

So in video mode on R6 the menu is in AF, page 3, called Movie Servo AF track sens. "Sens." meaning sensitivity. Goes from -3 to +3 the latter being the most sensitive.
