We already have immortality. DMT will show you that. I used to be HARD atheist. What people risk is keeping themselves stuck here in a planetary prison ran by psychopaths.

Replicants still on the hook for student debt when the original person died 1000 years ago.

I personally find the idea of conversing with an artificial stand-in for a dead relative horrifying, but I could easily imagine someone embracing a comforting lie instead. Perhaps Ray is misrepresenting his wife here, but what he says about her makes no sense to me at all. He says she'd like to converse with an artificial version of her father, presumably for comfort (implying she in some way feels she's connecting with her father's consciousness), yet she doesn't care about his/its rights at all (implying she views it as a piece of technology/a tool).

Immortality belongs to purely abstract objects; that is, only abstract objects are indestructible. Every material object, whether organic or metallic, is destructible and therefore “mortal”. This being said, regenerative medicine can radically enhance the quality and longevity of human systems.

I like Kurzweil idea that living forever or being reanimated is for the need of others who may want to (re)experience someone lost to them. I understand that this short snippet and the context in this one example does not allow for complete understanding of Kurzweils thoughts on this. But is it possible that some folks dont want to be bothered anymore after having passed?

I think the best thing that would come of emulating anyone is giving children and young adults mentors to keep them on a good track

I hope I'm not being offensive when I say this. I would like to get a wig and Rays wig looks really convincing. I would love to know where he purchased it.

Before replicants we need something like:
Proposal: People’s Data Act 2023- your data /communications is your “intellectual property”, if a company wants it they must compensate each citizen for it. We must individually own our data!

First clause of act: all past “user agreements” are deemed predatory and canceled. Said company must offer all users a “contract” with compensation per level of “data” they want and you are willing to give.
Just like Spotify contracts podcasters and SubStack contracts writers. Their ideas (ie: data) are compensated for, so should the average user.

Feels like AI might be our only way forward….. if humanity ends up uniting all our conscious into a single entity… we will become immortal and be able to travel across the universe if need be. It’s similar to what has already happened to us before….. we have already lost the incredible physique of our ancestors from the Stone Age across several generations. What we may lose now in exchange for immortality would be our unique mindset.

why is the replicant idea so difficult when it comes to rights. you've created a new human so it has its own rights. it doesn't have your obligations in the same as if you just discovered your identical twin you didn't know you had.

I feel bad for anyone that could think a chatbot offers any semblance of immortality. However, I sympathize with the pain that could drive someone to ache for the illusion of loved ones remaining with them.
