South Elmsall amateur film maker Colin The Head returns for another fascinating Urban Exploration Documentary video set in Yorkshire, England in another episode of Colins World of Everything.

In this episode, Colin visits an Ice House in the grounds of Burntwood Hall at Howell Wood Country Park in South Kirkby.

Colin then checks out the last of the Deep Coal mines in the country which closed back in 2015 symbolising the end of coal mining in England.

Womersley Quarry, a haunt known as the Blue Lagoon is next on the list before Colin finishes the episode at the spooky 13th century grade 1 listed Church of St Peter at Felkirk.

I've lived in Huddersfield for the past 45yr since I was born ; )
I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge of the Yorkshire's history along with the secret gems of information and locations of interest for us to chill 👍
I'm new here but I don't think that you need to downplay this episode.
Again thanks for sharing : )

Felkirk Church is a bit older than 13th C, was commissioned around the same time as Pontefract Castle's first stone keep around 1100 and built sometime between then and 1120. The first extension was in the 13th C. The original vector, the deHoderodes of the original moated Hodroyd Hall, were Senechals to the DeLacy's, Norman Lords. There's only a couple of guys from the memorials actually buried there, most are buried/commemorated at the place of their deaths, tbh the plaques could do with being replaced as theres a few errors on them. The 'crypt' is the boiler room. Its not normally that overgrown. The school at the side of it dates to around 1650 and is one of oldest in yorkshire, the original church would have been around the same size. Near the doorway you can see evidence of Saxon stonework, more inside. As it happens i've scuba dived at Blue Lagoon, its just a training lake, not very deep and poor visibility, but nice place and good facilities for training.

the ice house was used for storing ice only, no dairy products or meat were ever stored in there . the ice was taken from the lake when it froze over and stored in the ice house, it was then taken up to burntwood halls chiller as and when needed.the blocks of ice were packed with layers of straw between them to stop it fusing back together while in storage.
