The Ten WORST Teams To Make the NFL Playoffs

You can't win the Super Bowl without first making it to the playoffs. But not every team that makes it to the playoffs is exactly stellar. We count down the ten worst.

Explanation of C-Score:

C-Score is a metric created by this channel to assign an overall value to a football team. It takes a team's:

-Results, including standard and Pythagorean W-L record
-Performance, including game control and play-by-play production
-Quality of opponents, specifically performance level against opponents

and distills all of that into one cumulative and comparative score reflecting the context of the season in question. When applicable, a team's playoff performance is also included.

A C-Score of 0 represents an average football team, whereas anything above 0 represents an above average team and anything below 0 represents a below average team.

A team's record is important, but not always indicative of C-Score. An 11-5 team can rate higher than a 13-3 team or lower than a 9-7 team. Not all records are created equally.

8 of the teams in this video won a playoff game, so their efforts weren’t all for naught

Surprised the 2020 Washington Football Team wasn't here. They went 7-9 in a horrific NFC East

The 1985 Cleveland Browns nearly became the first team without a winning record (8-8) but won a weak division. They led the Dolphins 21-3 in Miami at the half before the home team rallied to win. At least it sparked the competitive but heartbreaking era for the Browns with Bernie Kosar at quarterback. Also the 1978 Falcons only won the game due to the Eagles inept kicking game with an emergency kicker who never played in the NFL again after the game.

You know what really shocked me? Not including the 2022 Minnesota Vikings. Sure, they went 13-4, but all of their wins were by 1 possession. On top of that, all four of their losses were blowouts, making them one of the only double digit win teams with a negative points differential. And even worse, when they got to the playoffs, they lost in horrific fashion to Daniel Jones and the New York Giants.

Man, by no means am I a Steelers fan. But that 2011 Wild Card game against Denver was hard to watch. That game was proof that if you can just get there anything can happen.

oh yes man, that 89 Steelers team was fun. even though they lost to the broncos it felt like a win because they were so bad to start.

It's ridiculous that teams with a negative record make it into the play-offs while teams with a better record don't. But the league wanted divisions with four teams. We wouldn't have this problem with bigger divisions.

Though the 2012 Colts appear on this list, I won't complain. That season was a beautiful turnaround from the nightmare of 2011

_It’s almost laughable as to how weak the NFC West was from 2002-2011._

Fantastic video as always! Love the idea and that it has zero bias. Just numbers

The 2017 Bills making the playoffs even with a negative point differential was karma for the 2004 Bills and their +111 point differential missing the playoffs

What goes around comes around

80% of the featured teams won a playoff game, against a "more deserving" playoff team. Shows you just how narrow the margins are, and how silly these little made up stats really are.

Life long Rams fan. I remember in 1979....WAY back in 7th grade, LOL, the Rams eeeeked into the Playoffs at 9 and 7. They stumbled all year and were torn up by injuries. Then they beat Dallas (STILL my all time favorite Rams game. Vince to Waddy still my all time favorite play) Beat Tampa and then had a 4th quarter lead in the Super Bowl vs the mighty Steelers. UUUGH!! That game STILL hurts. Rod Perry was a fingernail away from tipping the game winner. But before the Playoffs started, the Media / everyone gave the Rams zero chance.

Seattle eliminated both time by the Bears, about the only quality of team my team can beat in the playoffs.

That patriots team in like 2021 where Allen and the bills scored a Touchdown on every drive they had. Except for two kneel downs at the end of the first half and end of the game

I think C score might be my favorite metric for evaluating whole team talent that I’ve ever come across

Would love to see the 10 worst teams in NFL history based off C-score. Morbidly curious to see if the winless Lions, Browns, Or Bucs are worse

Hey I have an idea for your next videos. Top 10 NFL teams that deserved to make the playoffs but missed out by one game or crazy tie breakers. 3 teams would include the 1970 Browns who were very competitive at the time but went 7-7 after back to back NFL Championship appearances. The 1979 Redskins who could have been the one seed but didn’t make it over crazy tie breakers. The 1980 Lions who were 1 overtime game from winning the NFC Central. This would be an interesting idea for a video.
