It's not just a shortage, it's the manufacturing also. I put a lower control arm on a Dodge ram 1500 yesterday and it was casted wrong, would not even mount up so the bolts would go through. For other vehicles I find myself frequenting the pick and pull because parts are so hard to get. The only thing I make sure when I buy a car, is that it was hugely mass produced and the local pick and pull has several in stock.

I had to modify the brackets for some radiators. Cross-reference tactic solution.

I get lots of "Saturn" vehicles to fix. Parts are now OBSOLETE and almost impossible to find, even at junk yard(s). Nissan Quest with ABS module failure, took a whole month to get it fixed... Ouch 😳

I just got back from the VW dealership chewing them out because I've been waiting 6 MONTHS for a rear impact bar (bumper). They say there are no parts in the country and no ETA. I asked them if they thought that was an "acceptable answer." The repair shop can't even find a part from a wrecking yard across the country.
Even this video offers NO EXPLAINATION for the shortage. If manufacturers are behind schedule they generally increase capacity quickly or at least work overtime. I understand that some electrical components are affected by the war in Ukraine, but a Sheetmetal bumper?
I don't care how bad it is out there, someone still owes me an answer!
I'm fortunate because the guy who hit me had insurance and the insurance company is still paying for my rental car 6 months later (and i'm sure all our rates will be going up because of this too!)

I thought I was blessed owning a 1977 Ford LTD, but even I can't find most parts for it.

So glad I'm not a parts manager any more...

6 Months for trim for a bumper repair to fix minor rear end bang. No eta on electronic parts in my industry. Issues cropping up all over maybe shutting the world down for flu might not have been the best idea.

The manufacturers are switching production over to EVs. That's the problem. 2 weeks to shorten the curve 🤣
