Thanks for advising to turn the heat up on the flat iron. My 4c hair giggles when I have my heat in the three hundreds.

Another tip from growing up with hair stylists: leave your freshly washed hair in a towel for at least 20-30 minutes. Your hair will be softer and more moisturzed! And use a paddle brush for blow drying as opposed to the blow dryer attachment

Two words y'all: Setting Lotion ( or hair spray). I struggled keeping my hair straight as I was flat ironing it. I tried everything people on you tube suggested and everything I could think of. Then one day God put in my spirit to spray some holding spray on your finger tips and work it through the section of hair I was about to flat iron. I did it and my hair looked so good. I did all of my hair like that and it stayed straight until I washed it a week and a half later. I then did a little digging/research and found out that back in the day (1980s) setting lotion was used when straightening natural hair. And for my kinky styles lately I've started using Curl Activator Spray that I dilute well and leave in Conditioner on my hair (and of course water) for styling twist outs and it keeps my hair so moisturized and delightful to the touch like a bed of cotton and rose petals 😁.

I use 450 if I'm not mistaken. Just one pump of Paul Mitchell super skinny serum on one half of my hair, then the other before blow drying. I've been doing this for over 10 years. I use the Babyliss flat iron because it really works with course hair. My hair is about 3 inches past my braw in a ponytail. I have, of course, had my hair cut quite a few times through the years. No relaxer on over 15 years. All of my hair is virgin hair now. Just one product, and I'm good. I also will keep a bonnet on my hair 80% of the time. That's how I maintain length. I love your hair texture. It's beautiful! ❤

Lovely!!! I’m two years in and just straightened my hair to trim and attempt to shape it only to end up cutting off four inches from the front and around two from the back. My ends were see through and my temple area broken off. This is my 4th big chop!!! I go two years and then out of disappointment chop it all off again. This time I’m glad that I restrained myself to just cut the damage off. I definitely need to embark on a healthy hair regimen for this next two years 😂…

P.S. I’m 4c and don’t enjoy doing my hair anymore.

Every time I leave my hair curly I get super dry ends, but when I straighten it, it retains the health of my hair and my hair bounces back every time I wash it after heat styling. The only time my hair didn’t bounce back was with a keratin treatment.

also to help reduce tension, section your hair and start with your crown. and then do your back and then the sides and then the crown.

A straight natural is simply a natural with heat damage. They see the little straight ends and think you’ve had a relaxer.
