22 Weeks Pregnant - What to Expect

Показать описание
Transcript:
It's week 21, and your baby is weighing in at almost three quarters of a pound. What's new in the height department? Right now, your little one checks in at about 10 ½ inches in length from head to heel, or the size of an extra large banana.
And speaking of bananas, you might want to eat some this week if you'd like your baby to have a taste for them. That's because the flavor of amniotic fluid differs from day to day, depending on what you've eaten. And now that your baby is swallowing amniotic fluid each day for hydration, nutrition and just for practice, your little one will be getting a taste of, and a taste for, whatever's on your menu.
And here's another baby update: Arms and legs are finally in proportion. Neurons are now connected between the brain and muscles, and cartilage throughout the body is turning to bone. Which means that when your baby makes those moves, which you're probably feeling by now, they're much more coordinated. No more jerky twitches.
Meanwhile, on the outside of your belly, your baby might be starting to leave a mark. In the form of stretch marks, that is. Not only on your bump, but possibly also your butt, thighs, hips and breasts. These pink, red, purple, reddish-brown or dark brown streaks appear when the supporting tissue under your skin gets torn as the skin stretches. Estimates vary, but at least half of pregnant women get stretch marks, though you're a likely candidate if your own mom had them. Wear them proudly.
