The great old original Powerstroke. There are many with 1million plus miles on them.

I had my 7.3 for 18 years ended up selling it with 504, 000 miles for $5, 500.00 cash it was a F-350 1999 original motor & it was still running amazing, that truck saved my ass especially during the recession in 2009

I just saw your video, New Follower!! Keep living the Dream brother & do NOT look back!

Everything you said about keeping on top of the maintenance is true. I prefer to cycle the key twice on my 96 just to give reset that clock on how long the glow plugs heat for. Cold starts every time. Of course it’s only in Utah and not Alaska and I recognize the big difference in low temperatures.

I'd kill to have an old-school 7.3 like yours. Manual transmission and all. They didn't offer me a manual transmission on my 2017 King Ranch witht he 6.7. It's been a great truck, but those classic 7.3's are special!

My 99 starts just fine in the cold here in Alaska. I had to replace injector o-rings 2 years ago when it wouldn't they were leaking like crazy apparently. So if you've got bad injectors or bad injector o-rings that's another reason that it won't start. Also, if your oil is low you might have trouble starting because it puts air bubbles in your oil rails. Another reason I had years ago that it wouldn't start was the fuel heater element was bad and when that's the case, the glow plug circuit doesn't operate properly because it's shorting out.

Same thing for the idi. They got a horrible wrap because nobody kept up maintenance, and well the plastic parts….but they run forever

Have you thought getting a aux coolant heater for the engine. That way you can preheat the block and have less wear and tear on the engine doing cold starts.

100 dollar man marine grade glow plugs, IH Glow plug relay, hot shots secret in the crank, HPOP and their fuel additive, anti-gel and Rotella t6 5w-30, IDM 140v Mod and she will fire in -20F all day long without being plugged in.

the Batterys 😂 ! Good Glow Plugs and Relays Gear reduction starter . or starter off of a newer model. And she's good to go all the time starts right up.... good tips man !!! Sometimes I feel like I'm the only 7.3 weirdo still out there. Nice to know I'm not alone in the world ;) It doesn't get near that cold where I live You are a champ 💪

See if you can get a new 6.7 starter in there. You will be amazed at the difference. Best upgrade on 6.0’s as well as other ford diesels that rely on oil pressure to get going. Spins them like crazy fast.

I've had a single battery and that thing cranked up slow with an old starter and corroded positive cable and STILL cranked in 2 seconds

I truly don't understand people that do not understand how a diesel starts. Your 7.3 never sits long enough for it to not start perfectly. Batteries, heat, and fuel. Works everytime. Maintenance is key. That's it.

Another thing people may be over looking is how bad the battery cables can corrode on the inside and still look ok on the outside.

If peg leg has taught us nothing else, it's that Cosby sauce starts a diesel in any temp.

People who don't believe you can run diesels in subzero weather. How do they think anything gets anywhere?? Keep #1 diesel in the tanks. My old Cummins doesn't have glow plugs, so I put a 1500 watt block heater in. Change the air dryer frequently and always keep alcohol handy in case the air does freeze and just keep getting it done.
