Vinod Kambli is a former Indian cricketer, who played for India as a middle order batsman, as well as for Mumbai and Boland, South Africa. Kambli became the first cricketer in cricket history to score a century in a One-day International on his birthday. Kambli has the highest career batting average for an Indian test cricketer of 54 but he played his last Test when he was just 23 years old. Thereafter, he was only considered to play for one day international matches, although his last appearance in that format was also at the young age of 28.

Kambli scored 224 against England at Wankhede Stadium in 1993 as his maiden test century in his third test. In the next test against Zimbabwe, he scored 227. In his next test series, he scored 125 and 120 against Sri Lanka. He is also the only cricketer to hit three consecutive test centuries in three innings, all centuries against different countries. In his 17 Tests, he averaged 69.13 in the first innings, and just 9.40 in the second innings, with a difference of 59.73.

Kambli made his ODI debut in 1991 against Pakistan during the Wills Sharjah Trophy. He played world cup tournaments in 1992 and 1996. He has 2 ODI centuries into his credit: 100 not out against England at Jaipur in 1993 on his birthday, setting the record for becoming the first batsman to score an ODI hundred on his birthday and 106 against Zimbabwe at Kanpur in the 1996 World Cup.

Descipline, dedication, character & mentoring was missed in the career and paid price for it.

Karun Nair blasted triple century against same England during england tour of India 2016 5th test 303 not out, very underrated player. Give only less number of opportunities for him.. bad politics destroyed his career. Sreesanth also good player but due to politics he also lost his place.

I came here after 10 years to again see that shot at 1.44. Typical West Indies kind of shot by the West Indian player.
😊😊😊

Kambli was indeed one of the few aggressive player which attracted youths. Very stylish batsman. Seems he had some skirmishes with captain Azharuddin & may be other authorities of BCCI which ultimately amplified, ending his career. Politics has a role everywhere. I guess this might have also happened with Vinod Kambli. Very Sad & a great loss to India.

Anyways he still continues to be my cricket

Kambli is the victim of the crass system in Indian cricket where there is no mentoring, guidance or coaching. Players are expected to manage everything themselves. Kambli was dropped because he did not fit into a system - Ganguli too may have gone the same way - he had more political clout in the form of Dalmiya. Prithvi Shaw, easily India’s most talented batsman to emerge in the last 15 years may end up with the same fate. Indian players will be dropped on a whim and then cast aside - Shubnam Gill may go the same way. Janina Vihari, Mayank Agarwal, the list is endless.

He was same height and build as lara. And his shots also resembled that of lara. Only if he had practiced more on fast bouncy pitches more by playing english county ( like sachin and dravid did) he could have been close to lara. Coz just like lara, when he played well, he stayed there till 200 +

If he would have continued his great game for atleast next 5 to 6 years then maybe India would have two legends in total one Sachin Tendulkar and the other Vinod Kambli.

I will say kambli is overrated while sachin is underrated!!!

what everyone says :
kambi's average after 10 match : 93.5
(sachin 50.5 at same time)
Kambli's career average 54 +
( sachin's 53.8)

What everone ignores :
Sachin's average from kambi's 1st to 10th match : 👉🏻101.37👈🏻
Sachin's average in 1st to 17th game of kambli :
👉🏻77.94👈🏻
Sachin scored 1325 runs in those 17 match kambli took to score 1000...but unfortunately no one bothered his performance as everyone was obsessed with average!!! Sachin debuting at 16 years, alread had a lot of match, and thus even a he averaged 102 in first 10 matches of kambli, it did not showed much rise in his displayed carrer average...it showed 50.49 while kambli 93.5😅

Even the epic 664 runs partnership :
Kambli was 16 while sachin 14 year 10 month... Not to forget sachin made international debut at 16

200 in around 400 balls..
He has played sessions after sessions.. Its not a matter of joke to stay at the crese for 400 balls.
T20 era willnever understands this..

Many players who failed miserably are given long rope to recover if they have clout. But others will be shown the door in 2 to 3 matches.if runs were the criteria, even tendulkar, dravid, ganguly, rohit failed for more than a series, but were not made to sit even for a single match.
