This is a literal dissection of Vinod Kambli by West Indian quickies.
This guy could never mend his technique. Guys that brag about Kambli being more talented than his buddy Tendulkar should be shown this video.

Good of you to include the dismissal by Hooper too. This was the result of the pressure created by Walsh, Benjamin and co, leading him to take too many chances against the “buffet” bowlers. I remember Curtly Ambrose was not available for that series. For India, Javagal Srinath spearheaded the Indian bowling for the first time after Kapil's retirement. If I remember correctly he was the man of the match in the Mumbai test.

I remember this series. Ambrose was injured and missed it. Walsh and Kenny Benjamin did an incredible job especially in the Mohali Test. Prabhakar too got knocked out in Mohali.

This is precisely the difference between good players and great players ..

Great players keep improving on their shortcomings and become invincibles...

So don't compare him to Tendulkar who believes in updating himself...

This is exactly why Kambli failed while Tendulkar flourished. Kambli never worked on his poor technique against short ball whereas Tendulkar became one of the best batsmen of short pitch bowling. This is the difference.

Hook and pull are the shots for survival in test cricket

That 90's WI pace attack was not as great as they were in the 70's and 80's but they were right up there . Walsh and Ambrose were deadly and they had a decent supporting cast .

Aakib Javed was the 1st who picked his weakness in Sharjah when he opened the innings

This was in 1994 and in 2024 we are seeing a similar thing happening with Shreyas Iyer who cannot play any delivery over waist length. He also refuses to work on his short ball weakness like Kambli and one feels his fate might be similar to Kambli's.

For several years I felt that Kambli got a raw deal, but this video has changed my mind. From the second innings dismissals at Mumbai & Mohali, its evident that he wasn't prepared for the short pitched stuff. Any serious batsman against West Indies in a series in that era should have expected a generous dose of it. If he didn't prepare for something so basic, he clearly didn't have a good work ethic.

The lad played his last Test before his 24th birthday. Chaps like Dravid, VVSL and Ganguly hadn't even played a Test at age. Not saying that Kambli would necessarily have made it but he was consigned ridiculously early, not unlike Karun Nair

His weakness and Ganguly weakness are almost the same!!!

Remember, Kambli called West Indian attack as papadwadi before start of this series

Infact Kambli did come back on shortball and hit the greats like curtly ambrose to sixes in 1996, that video is there in YouTube as well.
If players like Rohits, Rahuls, Rainas, Pandyas, Gills are given chances series after series... Kambli sure deserve to be given more chances. He came back to the team now and then after 96, but there was no consistent backing to him like the other players got.
Many people say kambli drank and spoiled his career. Those people think as if other players dont do that. There are many who went in similar path still continued in the team. People who criticise kambli with all these things should go and check crickinfo for his domestic matches during the time he was dropped. Kambli scored excellent in most of the domestic matches during that time. Show me how many other current day players who showed similar consistency. So please check everything before we simply criticise. Thanks.

When you average 54 after 15 innings., you deserved to play more...any player can have 1 or 2 bad series and thats where role of Skipper is very important....skipper should back us

This series against Windies was the turning point of Kambli's career

Sourav Ganguly achieved what Vinod Kambli should have achieved. Fall of Vinod kambli in 1996 gave chance for ganguly in team and ganguly never looked back after that

Jimmy Adams from WI and Sachin from India were top scorer in the series, Venkatapathi Raju was highest wicket taker with 20 Wickets.
