I loved this scene because it shows how much Negan has changed over the seasons. From everyone wanting him dead, to everyone caring about him and worrying about him dying.

Thats what I hate about dead city is how they completely erased both negans and Maggie’s arcs. They were comfortable with each other and protected each other. And Negan knew what it was like to be the one on the other end now. I really hope they fix all that in season two

This scene was always a great one to me. For the first time Negan was able to feel what he put Maggie and the group through when he made them kneel and killed Maggie’s son’s father right in front of her.

Ezekiel still didn't even like Negan at ALL. He said as much. But he knew it was right because even though he could never forgive me for all the shit he did he still couldn't deny that he had indeed changed and deserved the chance to keep trying to make up for what he had done. Ezekiel had some integrity

I think of Negan the same way I think of Vader/Anakin. When Negan was freed, he went on a self reflection journey. Grabbed a leather jacket, went back to Sanctuary, and even had a devil on his shoulder telling him to continue doing bad (the kid who killed the mom and lil boy thinking it was a “test”)
And what did Negan do? He walked away from Sanctuary and killed the devil whispering in his ear. Fast forward to Dead City, and we see Negan scream at the loss of an old woman, only to take the killer and make an example out of him in front of his buddies. That was when I thought of Negan as a Vader type character. He only goes dark when the situation demands he go dark. Negan, the one that killed Abe and Glenn, shows his face when shit needs to get done
