Remember, back in S4 during The Governor’s final attack on the prison, Rick fired after Hershel getting his neck slit, where Carl proceeded to then take the second shot and hit The Governor. He always had it in him, like father like son.
I really hate Gimple killing Carl off, no matter what anybody thinks of his actor, he _was_ the reason behind TWD. He was what the goal was, a better future amidst the Hell of the apocalypse.

They missed the opportunity of building Carl into a protagonist with Rick's absence, watching a character grow from a child into a leader would have emotionally grabbed the fans into eternity. I wonder why they were so blind.
