People are just stupid. They don’t realize that companies can change and that their reputation from 10-15 years ago might not apply to the way they are today.

Edit: I'm not going to go and say that Hyundai's new N performance engines are tough and will last because truthfully, they've only existed in the US since 2019. That's not enough time to be able to say if they're reliable or not. It seems people have had some horror stories with them though.

I have no problem with people calling them trash because of what they've currently heard or experienced with the new engines, the problem I have is all of these people going around calling these cars and engines trash because of Hyundai's history and past models. That isn't always how the world works and pertains back to my original statement. Things can change. Have a nice day to whoever is reading this. :)

My 2017 sonata died under warranty after only 4 years, 42000 miles. Hyundai refused to honor their warranty, and I had to use non lemon law arbitration to have it repurchased. Hyundai fought me every step of the way. Took 18 months. Absolute nightmare experience.

I had a 22 Tucson that was leaking water in to the interior from somewhere. The dealer kept it for 40 days before figuring it out it was the windshield. It had water in it for 2 months but wouldn't replace the carpet. They wouldn't agree to a buy back voluntarily. I traded it and will NEVER buy another Hyundai product again.

I put 180k on a veloster only thing I ever replaced was alternator and battery, change your oil regularly and don’t drive like a maniac and you’ll be fine.

Also if you ever planning on cashing in on that 100k warranty you had better do all your maintenance through the dealership.

My 2012 Elantra is on 200k miles and not a single issue ❤ It’s all about the driver, not the car.

That warranty only applies for the first owner btw. I didn’t realize that until I read the booklet from my Santa Cruz. I know some other ones are the same but the 10yr/100k surprised me.

I work at hyundai and we do engines all the time but its only the 2011 to 2019 2.0t and 2.4L in the sonata. They rarely get denied if it is knocking. They burn valves sometimes. Which people might think it falls under the recall which it doesnt. Sometimes even if they have sludge they still approve them for knocking or seizing. The amount of neglect owner's give their hyundais is insane. I've seen those cars with 240k+ miles with no check engine light and running extremely well. For that reason im trading in my chevy for one of these.

I'm about to hit 30k on mine. And I got a 200k mile warranty on mine. Best car I've ever owned so far. Proper maintenance and care on the car will keep it from blowing, even if you only drive it in N mode like I do.

Good luck getting it in and out quick. I have heard a few stories of people waiting months sometimes years because parts aren’t around.

It's a fairly recent Hyundai motor (SmartStream). Although many previous generation Hyundai motors had oil burning issues, I haven't heard much about them blowing entirely. The only motor of this gen that seems to be having issues is the 2.5L. What I'd be more concerned about is the 8 speed DCT in the Elantra N, which does have an open recall.

The 10 year/ 100k warranty is for like the oil pan and the shift knob. It doesn’t really cover all that much
