It's a simple solution - set a budget cap, and if it's violated, stop paying congress.

Such a smart dude. He as always had such a simplistic, but accurate and effective look at economics that I greatly admire.

That's an interesting approach to ending the deficit. Many politicians lack the fiscal capacity to take the necessary steps to correct the problem. Perhaps there should be some incentive for them to achieve such an end.

I actually like that idea. That or just arrest all 534 of the criminals in congress.

You make good points. The impetus is certainly on small business to make it's impact felt and be competitive. I support buying local, it encourages people to produce goods.

The real problem with the deficit is whenever someone does produce more income than they take home somebody takes advantage of them and they end up becoming a scape-goat and terminated from work the system just does not work right now because of people at the top building metaphorical walls which restricts success.

There use to be a debt ceiling in place to control government spending, but it was thrown out because it was too inconvenient to those running government to live within their means. So they took that debt control law and threw it out the window.

The key as I see it; you have to get those guys to pass the law...we can't pass it, and they would certainly not be excited to do so.

No, he is right. With the incentives in the right place the Reps would get the job done every time. The budget would be balanced. He wasn't entirely serious but was outlining that the responsibility lies with Congressmen and women.

Taxing the rich is part of solving the deficit. If you let the Bush tax cuts expire on the top 2% and eliminated all military spending the budget would be fixed. So if you keep some military spending but make heavy cuts with some social program cuts too it's done.

yeah, saw that doc...was thinking the same thing

hypothetical analysis:
1: such law is passed.
2:members can't deliver
3:members get fired
4:deficit remains
5:repeat steps 1-4 every time new members make an attempt.

In “Occupying Chairlifts” a simple rule tweak on inheritance ends up changing the direction and purpose of modern human life! Here’s a fair way to transition forward to where we’re rewarded for cooperating and creating instead of competing and conquering.
It's something specific we can demand. If this isnt the best answer, at least we’re thinking about what might be. Are we really just this close to having it work right?
Oh yeah, it's a Ski movie! “Occupying Chairlifts” on Youtube!

the politicians wouldn't pass it, but if organizations like the tea party put it into practice as to who they elected every election cycle, and booted every single person they could get their hands on, the person in that seat would know their days would be numbered and do what they could to stay.

We need more organizations like the tea party, although it is not just one big group, but it's a bunch of small groups wearing the same damn name, thanks national media for dumbing it down.

Everyone should own their own business, the only reason big corporations exist is because people throw money at them instead of buying locally.
