Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) is one of five conditions within the fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), of which it is the most severe. All FASD conditions are due to prenatal exposure to alcohol (due to maternal consumption of ethanol or alcohol during pregnancy). In this lesson, we discuss the factor of alcohol in the pathophysiology of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, including risk factors associated with alcohol consumption, the signs and symptoms of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (facial morphology, brain abnormalities and skeletal abnormalities), how Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is diagnosis and how it is treated.

I'm sure there are millions of FAS babies, children and adults out there who do not expressed physical signs but have deeper medical complications or emotional/impulse issues. There should be a law that lets people know that their mother drank alcohol or took drugs/prescription too, when their mother was carrying them. It would help people understand a lot. Pre 90s a lot of women drank. Each decade previous to the other it was worse. Some people would even give baby brandy or whiskey on their dummies/smoothers to get them to be quiet.

I just had to quit my job nannying that I was at for 9 years. Both kids had FAS and their parents were in denial. Statistically, life expectancy is not great for individuals with FAS because of their executive dysfunction. They often engage in risky behavior and commit suicide.

I was born with club feet, My mother had had an alcohol problem I don't know if she was drinking during her pregnancy, I always had difficulty with short term memory Spelling numerical sequences, But for my deficiencies I was also gifted otherwise ideo savant , I was to understand that she was given a sensitive by maybe a dentist that put her into convulsions 8 months into pregnancy, I've recently learned that rover's vs way wasn't voted on yet 1971 So this could have been an attempted abortion, There are many things about me that are different for one when I was younger I had an incredibly high metabolism, And I was physically very strong for my size, I'm a 32 waste 6' And was benching 500 pounds when I was 17, I could ride my bike 200 miles in A-day through mountain train and hit speeds of almost 50 miles an hour, I was speaking fluently at the age of 3 Like I was older than I am to the point it scared some people, And I had an imagination that just wouldn't quit I was always designing and creating It's like I couldn't make my mind focus on what I wanted to but then it would do amazing things all on its own

I like this video except the fact the author mention the Mom needs to admit of consuming alcohol during pregnancy. I would remove the word admit and change it to confirm as almost 50 % of women do not know they are pregnant until it is too late. We need to stop the stigma of drinking alcohol during pregnancy and face the reality that alcohol is legal and that support is needed to both Moms and children. Accommodate and support instead of hate!!! WE NEED TO STOP THE STIGMA ATTACHED TO FASD. More knowledge to the public to reduce the risk of FASD and more support to individual with FASD and their families are the answer.
