Puerto Rico Natural Wonder Punta Ventana Collapses After 5.8 Earthquake

A natural formation known as “Punta Ventana,” or Window Point, now stands without the bridge that once created the formation of the window, or hole, in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico. The natural bridge collapsed during the morning’s earthquake.

On Monday, a 5.8-magnitude quake hit Puerto Rico, which caused small landslides, causing power outages and severely cracking some homes. It was one of the strongest quakes yet to hit the U.S. territory that has been shaking for the past week.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

A very similar natural arch just a few miles down the road from where I live in Hawaii collapsed a few years ago. It was so beautiful and a tourist draw. It is very much missed, even as one understands that it is just Nature taking her course. Bless the people of Puerto Rico as they continue to deal with this natural disaster. With aloha....

I was raised in that town (Guayanilla) I spent a lot of my childhood going to that beach and climbing Punta Ventana sad to see it gone...

I don't get the "disaster" and "tragic" part. An earthquake is a natural phenomena, erosion is part of nature, in a way it is a miracle it lasted this long... We humans tend to want for things never to change when the only constant is that everything changes. We create our own anxiety and sadness over the inevitable. Forests burn, rock formations collapse, and even countries and empires fall. As somebody said bellow, is a naturally formed hole on a wall.. that isn't there any more. Does it really have any other significance? And if you are a fervent admirer of the hole in the wall, well, I apologize I am NOT trying to offend you, really. And yes I am Puertorican and have been there and saw it in my early years.
